00:00Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter named Henry in a small village. He was an honest and God-fearing person.
00:15Every day, he went to the nearby forest to cut wood. One afternoon, on a very hot day, he took his axe and went to the forest in search of wood.
00:29He found a big tree on the bank of a river. Henry started cutting the tree with his axe. It was a strong tree, so he had to use hard strokes to bring it down.
00:46Unluckily, the axe slipped from his hand and fell inside the river. Henry was in deep sorrow. The river was very deep and he did not know how to swim.
01:01He sat on the bank, helpless. How would he get back his axe? He did not know. He started crying. Suddenly, he heard a sweet voice. Tears had blurred his vision, so he could only hear the voice and not see anything.
01:24Immediately, he wiped his eyes and was amazed to see a heavenly figure rising from the river. It was a divine figure, the goddess of water.
01:36What happened, my boy? Why are you in tears? She asked Henry, most tenderly. Henry narrated the whole story to the deity. The goddess listened to his story with rapt attention.
01:53Suddenly, she dived into the water and after some time came out with an axe in her hand. It was a golden axe. She offered it to Henry. But how could Henry take it? He was an honest boy and wanted back only the same iron axe that he had lost. So he refused to take it.
02:19The goddess dived again into the water and came out just in a few minutes. This time, she had a silver axe in her hand. Still, Henry did not accept that axe and refused it most politely once again.
02:38The deity dived into the water once again. This time, she came out with the same iron axe that Henry had lost in the river. Henry was delighted to get back his axe that he so badly needed. He accepted it with a very sincere gratitude.
02:59The goddess was really pleased at the poor woodcutter's honesty. At that instant, she conjured up the other two axes, golden and silver, that she had first bought out from the river.
03:13You are a really honest person, she remarked, and gave both the axes to the poor woodcutter as a reward. Moral, honesty is the best policy.
