00:04I'm just your average high school girl next door. Pretty, talented, and great at parties.

00:09I had everything I could ever want. Even my parents were awesome. There was only one thing

00:14I really wanted. A boyfriend. I dated before, but all those guys were jerks.

00:32My eyes were immediately hooked on to him. The looks, the smile, and the muscles rippling underneath his shirt.

00:39I just had to have him. So I asked him out, something I would never do normally.

00:44But it all worked out because he said yes. It didn't take long for us to finally go on our first dinner date.

00:49It was incredible. He was such a gentleman and knew just the right things to say.

00:57But I couldn't shake the feeling of deja vu. Like I'd met Chris before. Oh, well.

01:02I'm sure it's nothing. For the next few months, we went on many different dates.

01:06Traveling all over the city, eating wonderful foods, and studying together at night. Everything was perfect.

01:15But of course, something just had to happen to ruin it. Chris had planned a date at a fancy new restaurant downtown.

01:22I was so excited. I actually got ready early this time and speed walked to the restaurant with a spring in my step.

01:28But when I finally got there, my heart fell to the floor and shattered.

01:33Sitting next to my boyfriend was another girl with her arm around his shoulder.

01:37I didn't care if he looked a bit uncomfortable. I wasn't taking this betrayal lying down.

03:27And when she wasn't acting like his freaking mother, she kept staring daggers at me.

03:32I tried to act like I wasn't bothered at all and leaned over to feed Chris some of my pasta.

03:37But seconds later, he started coughing and turning blue.

03:42What? Of course I didn't! Chris, are you okay? Say something!

03:46He can't, you moron. His tongue is swollen.

03:48What is in that pasta? Blueberries? Kiwis? Dandelion tea? Rosehip oil? Diet Coke?

03:59And with that, she quickly reached into her bag, pulled out an EpiPen, and stabbed him with it in the thigh.

04:04He gasped and coughed some more, but he could finally breathe.

04:09The date ended after that, thankfully.

04:11And as I went home, I hoped it was the last I'd ever see of her.

04:15But for the next two months, it was the same.

04:17No matter where we went and what we did, Vekta was there to ruin it.

04:21Chris just couldn't seem to shake her off and would let her stay.

04:24And she kept making it obvious that she disapproved of me greatly.

04:28I'd catch her staring at me with disdain, like I wasn't worthy of him or something.

04:32It didn't feel like the frustrations of some jealous ex, thank god.

04:35But it was something serious, enough to squeeze herself in on our dates and annoy me,

04:40while wearing the most outlandish cosplay outfits and hairstyles.

04:44So childish!

04:45It was even affecting Chris. He had been looking more downcast lately.

04:48It came to a head when he actually decided to hang out with Vekta over me for a day.

04:53What?

04:53Look, she's my sister, and I have been neglecting her recently.

04:57But what about our date today?

04:58She would just crash it as usual.

05:00I promise we'll hang out this weekend, just the two of us.

05:03He kissed me on the cheek and then left me, devastated and confused.

05:07That night in bed, I stayed up pounding my pillow, imagining it was Vekta's face.

05:12I wanted our private time back.

05:14But as much as I wanted to slap her, violence wasn't the solution.

05:18Instead, I needed to know what Vekta's problem was.

05:21There must be a reason for why she was acting the way she was.

05:24Luckily, a puzzle piece fell into place during the weekend.

05:27As promised, I was hanging out with Chris at his place.

05:30We were watching a cheesy romance movie while snuggling on the couch.

05:34Right on time, Vekta came out of nowhere and inserted herself into our lives again.

05:39She came and sat between us on the couch, holding a dead, potted plant.

06:00Before I could remember anything, Chris let out a loud sigh.

06:15A part of me was jumping for joy at the way Chris snapped at her.

06:26It's the annual LARPing capture the flag event for our city.

06:30LARPing? Like that thing nerds do outside? Playing pretend?

08:02Chris was not joking.

08:03I was put through actual exercises and drills like I was preparing for the army.

08:12So, I pushed on. And you know what? I'm glad I kept at it.

08:15Sure, the conditioning was terrible.

08:17But once I was actually playing the game, it felt like I was in another world.

08:21It was magical and so different from anything I was used to.

08:25But what really made it all worth it was Chris.

08:27He was really enjoying himself.

08:30That and his immense knowledge on LARPing made it clear he had played before.

08:34Although he refused to admit it.

08:36I hadn't seen him smile like this since ever, really.

08:39And if he was happy, I was happy.

08:41Eventually, the weekend came, and it was finally time for the event.

08:45And when we arrived at the venue...

08:46Oh. My. God.

08:48There were at least 200 people here!

08:50They had even built small buildings and tents.

08:52And the large space with a nice forest surrounding us made it even more picturesque.

08:57Before I could really appreciate the beauty, Vekta came running up to Chris.

09:01Christopher! You really... came.

09:03Of course. We both did.

09:04Hello. Oh, yeah. I almost forgot about you.

09:07Are you sure she won't slow you down?

09:09I'd hate for you to lose because of a handicap.

09:48Despite the training, this was still nerve-wracking.

09:51The worst part was the mages in the teams

09:53pretending to react to their own foam ball spells.

09:56It was a struggle at first, but eventually I got used to it

09:58and started having fun.

10:00I could tell Chris was having a blast too,

10:02even more so when he noticed I was having fun too.

10:05Eventually, our squad was closing in on the enemy camp.

10:08Our leader suggested a pincer attack.

10:10Chris was on the other attack squad,

10:12which nearly caused me to panic.

10:14But a comforting hand to the shoulder later, I calmed down.

10:17So, we split up and went deeper into the forest.

10:19And this is where things got bad.

10:21One by one, my squad was picked off by some archer in the woods.

10:25It didn't take long for me to be the last one standing.

10:27That's when the culprit revealed herself.

10:29I'm surprised you lasted this long.

10:32Vecta, of course. I should have known.

10:34We stared each other down before Vecta threw down her bow

10:37and drew her foam sword and shield.

10:39Let's make a new deal.

10:40The first one to get a hit wins.

10:42Same conditions from before apply.

10:44I drew my own sword and shield.

10:46Fine. Good.

10:47Prepare for failure.

10:49Wasting no time, Vecta charged at me

10:51as if this was a life and death battle.

10:53And I responded in kind.

10:55I wasn't losing my relationship with Chris.

10:57We clashed repeatedly, trading blows on our shields,

11:00unable to get a body shot.

11:01Shockingly, I was holding my own.

11:03Chris had taught me well.

11:05I dodged an attack to my leg

11:06and asked the burning question in my head.

11:09What is your problem with me dating Chris?

11:11Shouldn't you be happy for him?

11:12Now that really got her mad.

11:14And she was lashing out even harder.

11:16You seriously haven't figured it out?

11:25Suddenly, it all fell into place.

11:42I barely even recognize him now.

11:44I felt ashamed of how I hadn't even given Christopher a chance before.

11:49before I even got to know how sweet and amazing he was.

11:52But I knew that now,

11:53and I liked everything about him.

11:55Nerdy side and all,

11:56I wasn't so shallow anymore.

11:58With renewed determination,

12:00I took advantage of Vecta's rash attacks

12:02and finally got a hit on her side,

12:04and she lost!

12:06She was about to break down into tears,

12:08but before that could happen,

12:09I hugged her.

12:10I get why you hate me, Vecta.

12:12And I'm sorry for turning him down like that before.

12:14Your brother is a great guy,

12:16and I would never want to change him.

12:18Are you serious?

12:19Yeah, I love him after all.

12:21For the first time,

12:22I actually saw Vecta give me a genuine smile.

12:25I gladly returned it.

12:27Just then, the horn blew,

12:28signaling someone had won.

12:30We ran back to the team's base,

12:31and the sight brought another smile to our faces.

12:36was being carried by his team

12:38while holding the green flag,

12:39and the smile he wore melted my heart.
