Malvinder Singh Kang Urges Special Grant for Panjab University, Highlights Concerns in Higher Education

  • last month
Video details:
Malvinder Singh Kang: Panjab University, Chandigarh is one of India's most renowned institutions, producing great leaders and Olympic medalists. I urge the Central Government to provide a special grant to Punjab University and release the pending funds for the PM Shri and PM Poshan Scheme. Despite 58,000 higher education institutions in India, only 12% of students pursue PG, and just 0.5-0.6% go for PhD. This is a serious concern. #PanjabUniversity #HigherEducation #CentralGovernment #EducationFunds

00:00Sir, Punjab University is a very big institute in itself,
00:04where the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji,
00:06our very respected leader, Sushma Sivaraj ji,
00:09even the former Prime Minister, Inder Kumar Gujral,
00:13who was an alumni of Punjab University.
00:16Sir, the other day we received very good news,
00:19that the two medal winners in the Olympics,
00:22both of them, be it Manu Pakar, our daughter,
00:25or Sarbjot Singh, both of them are alumni of Punjab University, Chandigarh.
00:29Both of them have won medals from Punjab University.
00:32Sir, the problem is that the institutes like Punjab University,
00:36when they are going through a financial crisis,
00:39I request the government to save these institutions,
00:42to save these institutions,
00:44to give grants to these universities like Punjab University.
00:49Second thing, Mr. Speaker,
00:51under the guidance of our Chief Minister, Bhagwant Manjhi,
00:54we are continuously doing better education in Punjab.
00:57I request the government,
00:59that the two schemes,
01:01Prime Minister PM Poshan's scheme,
01:05and PM Siri's scheme,
01:07Prime Minister School for Rising India,
01:10both of these schemes are pending.
01:12I request the government,
01:14that as soon as possible,
01:16this money should be released.
01:18My second request,
01:20Mr. Speaker, we have 58,000 institutes in the world.
01:23We have the second highest number of higher education institutes in the world.
01:26But the problem is,
01:28when we talk about the world ranking,
01:30our ranking is 33rd.
01:32This is a matter of concern.
01:34And when we talk about higher education enrollment,
01:36in undergraduate colleges,
01:3888% of students go,
01:40but in postgraduates, 12% go,
01:42and in PhDs, only 0.5% or 6% remain.
01:46This is a matter of concern.
01:48But the government should think about this.
