"The Math is the Math": Van Jones Endorses Shapiro as Strong VP Pick for Harris

00:00But Charlie, she's also in the midst of trying to figure out who her VP pick is, right?

00:05You're a former Republican congressman of Pennsylvania.

00:08When Josh Shapiro ran for governor of Pennsylvania, you endorsed him over his Republican opponent.

00:13What do you think about a Harris Shapiro ticket?

00:15Well, that would be a very formidable ticket, should she choose Josh Shapiro, because Josh

00:22Shapiro does have, he does have cross-party appeal.

00:25We saw that in the gubernatorial election.

00:29And frankly, Colin Harris needs to be ruthlessly pragmatic right now.

00:34And she cannot win this election without winning Pennsylvania.

00:37She can lose Arizona and win the election.

00:39She cannot lose Pennsylvania and win the election.

00:42So that really accrues to Josh Shapiro's benefit.

00:45It would strike me that, you know, he could actually help her in the state now.

00:49And that's that's that's a reason to pick him.

00:52Now, obviously, the Democratic Party is pretty twisted up over the Israel-Gaza matter.

00:56And Shapiro is certainly pro-Israel.

00:59And that that might create some heartburn for some Democrats.

01:02But I think he can actually appeal more to the center of the country than she can.

01:06So if you're asking my advice, I'd say you go with Shapiro in a heartbeat.

01:10That's not to say she doesn't have other good folks to select from.

01:13But he brings something that none of the other candidates bring, and that's the Commonwealth

01:15of Pennsylvania, 19 electoral votes.

01:18You were nodding, Van.

01:20Listen, the math is the math is the math.

01:26Pennsylvania's must win.

01:28She's actually doing reasonably well in Michigan right now.

01:30She's doing reasonably well in Wisconsin.

01:32She's still struggling in Pennsylvania.

01:34And so, you know, that that is a very important consideration.

01:39There are other people who Democrats are swooning over.

01:43Other governors.

01:44Obviously, Mark Kelly's name comes up over and over again.

01:48There's a hope and a prayer on the part of of of communist folks that maybe if you put

01:53in a Mark Kelly from Arizona, you help to open up that Sunbelt lane.

01:57And so maybe you pick up a Georgia, maybe you pick up a Nevada, maybe you pick up in

02:00Arizona.

02:01But the reality is the most logical pathway for her is still those blue wall states and

02:07the brick in that wall.

02:08That's the flimsiest.

02:09That's that's that's the least secure is Pennsylvania.

02:13She's got a great governor sitting there looking at her right on top of that state.
