00:00Greek authorities have ordered nationwide restrictions for goat and sheep to combat
00:08a deadly viral outbreak.
00:11Kostas Stiaras, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, announced the ban
00:17on commercial slaughter of goats and sheep, as well as the movement for reproduction.
00:24This comes after an outbreak of goat plague, a highly contagious disease, affecting goats
00:29and sheep, causing severe illness and death.
00:33So far, some 7,000 animals in herds where the disease has been identified have been
00:39culled in the hardest-hit central region of Thessaly.
00:44Another 1,200 are expected to be added to that.
00:48According to Greek authorities, it has no impact on human health, but the decision comes
00:54as a fresh blow to the domestic livestock industry.
