00:00Meeting God Without doubt, regularly in Exodus 29 verse
00:0542 should be perpetually or continually, the standard meaning of the word.
00:11The burnt offering is always there, always in operation.
00:15Leviticus 6 verse 9 speaks of it on the altar all night until morning, and then at the fire.
00:21Shall be kept burning.
00:23It shall not be put out.
00:25Verse 13 literally adds, a perpetual fire shall burn, never go out.
00:31It speaks of perpetual atonement, and of a people perpetually represented as holding
00:36nothing back in their devotion to the Lord.
00:39This is the situation in which the Lord is pleased to meet with and speak to His people,
00:44and in which He finds the fulfillment of what He purposed in their redemption.
00:49Before we go on to the beautiful golden altar of incense, we must pause to recall those
00:53times when we say we are getting nothing out of our Bible reading.
00:57And it seems as if God has stopped talking to us.
01:01We need to ask ourselves the question, how is it with us and the great burnt offering?
01:07Are we living in close unitedness with the atonement?
01:10Can we sing, Jesus, keep me near the cross, there a precious fountain, free to all, a
01:16healing stream, flows from Calvary's mountain.
01:20In the cross, in the cross be my glory ever till my ransomed soul shall find rest beyond
01:25the river?
01:26Are we living in the spirit of holding nothing back?
01:30Moving on to the golden altar, we must see this in the wonderful balance of Scripture.
01:35Exodus 29 ends with the Lord coming to us to speak to us, and chapter 30 opens with
01:40the provision for us to come to God for Him to meet with us.
01:45Incense as a symbol is not, as such, explained in the Bible, but surely the picture is clear
01:50enough.
01:52Outside the veil the altar stands, but functionally its sweet savor penetrates the veil of perpetual
01:57incense before the Lord.
02:00It is exceedingly precious to Him and reminds Him of us and our needs.
02:05Hebrews 9 verses 3 and 5 is too versed in Scripture to think the golden altar was within
02:10the veil, yet it places it there.
02:14In other words, though outside the veil, its sweet and holy influence brings us into
02:18the very presence of the Most Holy God.
02:22Reflection
02:23Scripture calls us to be an aroma of Christ in the world, attached to which we are equal
02:28through the way we handle the Word of God.
02:32Our care for each other in the Gospel is a fragrant offering, pleasing to God.
