00:0050 states, one video, and only one state can come out on top.
00:07Will it be yours?
00:09Find out as we ruthlessly rank all 50 states from worst to best, based on their economy,
00:15safety, cost of living, schools, quality of life, and my opinion.
00:213, 2, 1, let the games begin.
00:27Number 50, Louisiana.
00:29Not even all the hurricanes can wash away the worst pollution levels in the country,
00:33but you know what they can wash away?
00:35Any infrastructure Louisiana does manage to build when it's not being robbed by its
00:40own government, as it's by far the most corrupt state.
00:44So it shouldn't be a shock that it's also the third most dangerous state, since there's
00:48virtually no economic opportunity.
00:51Number 49, Mississippi.
00:53Don't get cocky, Mississippi.
00:55The only reason you're not dead, lass, is because you know your worth, less, as you're
00:59the cheapest state.
01:01I mean, at least Louisiana has New Orleans, while all you have is 94% of the farm-raised
01:06catfish in the US.
01:07Oh, and also the lowest incomes, highest poverty rate, highest obesity rate, worst healthcare,
01:13and lowest life expectancy.
01:15Number 48, New Mexico.
01:18Despite New Mexico being the most dangerous state, and having the worst schooling system,
01:22and a terrible economy, the median home still costs $260,000, which is a lot more than the
01:28other states that suck this bad.
01:30But if you've ever driven through Taos or Georgia O'Keeffe country, I'm sure you
01:34can see why.
01:36Number 47, Arkansas.
01:38For being called the land of opportunity, Arkansas sure doesn't have much of it, with
01:43the third lowest income, second worst healthcare, fifth highest poverty rate, and fourth highest
01:47crime rate.
01:48But considering many Arkansans take imitating the calls of waterfowl more seriously than
01:53improving the quality of life, I'm not surprised.
01:56And yeah, the World Championship Duck Calling Contest takes place in Stuttgart, and the
02:00duck callers go hard.
02:04Number 46, Alabama.
02:06The most exciting thing to do in Alabama is read its 389,000 word constitution, which
02:11is more than 85 times the length of the US constitution.
02:15Well unless you live in Huntsville, which hopefully you do because living anywhere else
02:19in the state means you're probably in poverty, surrounded by crime, and gonna die before
02:23you turn 75.
02:26Number 45, Kentucky.
02:28Sure Kentucky may have the fourth highest poverty rate and third worst economic outlook
02:32of any state, but hey, at least there are two barrels of bourbon for every Kentuckian
02:36and $150 million is wagered on the Kentucky Derby each year.
02:41Priorities, amirite?
02:43Number 44, West Virginia.
02:45After being decimated for decades by the failing coal industry, things may be looking up for
02:51West Virginia.
02:52Sure, it still has the fourth worst healthcare, fifth worst schools, third worst economy,
02:56the worst infrastructure, and second lowest median household income at just $48,800, but
03:02those are huge improvements from where the state was just five years ago.
03:07Not to mention, it's the second cheapest state, and the scenery is stunning.
03:13Number 43, Tennessee.
03:14Loved by bachelorettes, nature enthusiasts, and country music fans alike, Tennessee sure
03:20is fun to visit.
03:21But not everything is sweet like Tennessee whiskey, as the healthcare and education systems
03:25are abysmal, the cost of living is skyrocketing, and it has the third highest violent crime
03:30rate.
03:31In fact, Memphis just passed St. Louis for the title of most dangerous city in America.
03:36And while the economy, particularly in Nashville, is growing fast, wages are still nearly ten
03:42grand below the national average.
03:45Number 42, Oklahoma.
03:47What can I say?
03:48Okay is okay, I guess.
03:51I mean the healthcare, schools, crime, and poverty are all bad, but at least the infrastructure
03:55and economy are decent, and it's dirt cheap.
03:58Although, with most of the state looking like this, it's not exactly prime real estate.
04:04Number 41, South Carolina.
04:06South Carolina was the second most moved to state in 2020, but it shouldn't let that
04:10get to its head because it's still the fifth most dangerous state.
04:14And while Charleston's a cool historic city with a thriving economy, it's also gotten
04:18pretty expensive, and the rest of the state is really struggling.
04:22So those were the 10 worst states, but before we get to the other 40, make sure you leave
04:27a like and subscribe.
04:28And we're also going to give an honorable mention to Washington DC, because if it were
04:33a state, it'd be right here on the list.
04:35Sure it'd have by far the highest incomes, but it'd also be by far the most dangerous
04:40state and 8 times more politically corrupt than Louisiana.
04:44But it's not a state, well yet, so here's real number 40.
04:49Number 40, Missouri.
04:50Okay, so Missouri is home to 4 of the 10 most dangerous US cities, including St. Louis,
04:57the murder capital of America.
04:59But outside of the crime, which is centralized to a few bad areas, Missouri is pretty underrated.
05:05The schools, infrastructure, and economy are all above average, and there are so many
05:09free attractions.
05:12Number 39, Nevada.
05:14COVID decimated Nevada's largely tourism-based economy, and tourism still hasn't returned
05:19to those pre-pandemic numbers.
05:21The unemployment rate is the highest in the nation, and while the economy is growing fast
05:26and starting to diversify, all the Californians moving in are also driving up the cost of
05:31living.
05:32Number 38, Arizona.
05:34Good luck enjoying Arizona's 300 sunny days a year or 22 beautiful national parks and
05:40monuments, because heatstroke will have you melting faster than an ice cube in boiling
05:44water, and allergies and pollution will have you sneezing yourself right back inside of
05:47your beige cookie cutter Arizona home.
05:50Oh wait, isn't that one your neighbor's house?
05:52Oh no, they just look the same.
05:54Number 37, Pennsylvania.
05:56A rust belt state that once played a vital role in building cars, now destroys them with
06:01some of the worst potholes in infrastructure.
06:03But hey, while it's not safe for vehicles, at least Pennsylvania is one of the safest
06:08states.
06:09Although, maybe not for your bank account, since the economy's been struggling for
06:13years and methanopioid addiction is rampant.
06:16Number 36, Michigan.
06:18Outside of Detroit, Flint, and Lansing, Michigan isn't terrible.
06:22There's gorgeous forests and shoreline on four great lakes, the upper peninsula is magical,
06:27and it's home to some of the cutest small towns in the nation.
06:30Plus, it's really affordable.
06:33Number 35, Ohio.
06:3560 years ago, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania were some of the best states to live in.
06:41But I guess that just shows the dark side of the American dream.
06:44Ohio has lost hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs over the past 30 years, which has resulted
06:49in places like Cleveland and Dayton seeing poverty rates over 30%.
06:54But at least real estate's cheap, and Columbus's economy is thriving.
06:58Number 34, Alaska.
07:00Statistically, Alaska should be in the bottom 10.
07:04It has the highest filing crime rate, second worst public schools, gets frigid cold, and
07:09the cost of living is through the roof.
07:11But the last frontier makes up for it with stunning views, great wages, and the fact
07:16that you get paid to live here.
07:18Not to mention, more Alaskans claim their state to be the best than any other state's
07:22residents, so that's gotta count for something, right?
07:26Number 33, Montana.
07:28While Alaska may be the most beautiful state, Montana isn't far behind, and its infrastructure
07:34is a heck of a lot better.
07:36The big sky state is still pretty expensive, however, as many rich west coasters buy second
07:41homes here.
07:42So even though the economy is the 7th fastest growing, wages aren't even close to keeping
07:47up with the cost of living.
07:49Number 32, Indiana.
07:51If you're a yodeler, Indiana is not the place for you.
07:55It's flat, boring, and the pollution is so bad that you wouldn't even be able to
07:59get a yodel in before the atmosphere yodeled you into a fit of coughs.
08:04Now if you're not a yodeler, there are worse places to live, but there are also 31 better
08:10places to live.
08:12Number 31, Illinois.
08:14More Illinoisans claim their state to be the worst than any other state's residents,
08:19and it shows, as they had the 3rd highest rate of outbound migration in 2020.
08:23But across the board, the Prairie State is pretty average, and Chicago is one of the
08:28most affordable big cities.
08:31Number 30, Texas.
08:33Texas is on track to be the largest state by population in 2050, and for good reason.
08:39The cities are mostly affordable, have tons of amenities, and their economies are booming,
08:45but the rural parts of the state have practically no economic opportunity.
08:49Not to mention the healthcare, safety, education, and air and water quality are all well below
08:54average too.
08:57Number 29, California.
08:58Traffic, homelessness, and the high cost of living are just some of the many reasons people
09:04are leaving California, but the perfect weather, incredible economy, and breathtaking scenery
09:09are also just some of the many reasons people are staying.
09:13Or maybe they're just trying to get famous, in which case I hate to break it to you Ashley
09:17with an eye, but it's probably not going to happen.
09:20Number 28, Delaware.
09:22Delaware might be the most forgettable state.
09:24Sure, there's nice beaches, but they're cold in the winter and overcrowded in the
09:28summer.
09:29And the rest of the state is more boring than Elon Musk's subterranean business ambitions.
09:35Number 27, South Dakota.
09:37You probably wouldn't expect a place in the middle of nowhere to be as economically
09:41diverse and self-dependent as South Dakota.
09:43But with Sioux Falls' thriving economy, no state income tax, great infrastructure,
09:48and excellent affordability, the Mount Rushmore state is the second most fiscally stable.
09:54Plus, the Black Hills and Badlands are simply magical.
09:59Number 26, Oregon.
10:00I lived here for a bit, and trust me, from the coastline to Crater Lake to Mount Hood,
10:06Oregon is stunning.
10:08And the economy and infrastructure are exceptional.
10:11The terrible education, pollution, property crime, and high cost of living do put a damper
10:15on things though, as does the constant drizzle and gray skies if you live near Portland.
10:20Speaking of which, no, it is not just an Antifa overrun hellhole.
10:24It's got problems, but the media really overplays them.
10:28Number 25, Kansas.
10:30Kansas is smack dab in the middle of the country, and smack dab in the middle of our list.
10:35It's pretty much the most average state.
10:38The end.
10:39Number 24, North Dakota.
10:41I might have spoken too soon about Kansas, because North Dakota is even more uneventful.
10:47It's just as flat and boring, and on top of that, it gets really cold.
10:51Which, I guess at least keeps the cost of living low, because no one wants to live here.
10:56Well, except for oil people, because there's tons of it, and oil pays well.
11:01Number 23, Georgia.
11:02Does Georgia have exceptional infrastructure, great affordability, and a fast-growing economy?
11:08Yeah, but not everything is peach-in-the-peach-state, because the healthcare, education, and crime
11:13rates could use some serious improvements.
11:16But hey, at least the Braves just won the World Series.
11:20Number 22, Rhode Island.
11:22Rhode Island may be the smallest state by total area, but it's not about the size.
11:26It's about the motion of the, um, air quality.
11:30Yeah, the air quality is great.
11:33And it's also the 8th safest state with the 4th best healthcare in an above-average economy.
11:38Sure, it's probably the worst state in New England, but considering how great most New
11:42England states are, that's really not that bad.
11:46Number 21, Wyoming.
11:48While Wyoming is over 80 times the size of Rhode Island, Rhode Island has nearly twice
11:53as many people.
11:54Well, that is if anyone even lives here at all.
11:56I mean, does Wyoming really exist?
11:58There's no real cities, and it's over 100 miles between many of the closest towns.
12:03But if it does exist, it's the most tax-friendly state, and the great schools, low crime, beautiful
12:09nature, and affordable cost of living make it a pretty decent place to live.
12:14Allegedly.
12:15Number 20, New York.
12:17Wait, what?
12:18New York sucks!
12:19How the heck is it in the top 20?
12:21Well, haters gonna hate, but despite its flaws, there's no place like it.
12:26The city is a melting pot of everything, and upstate is affordable and gorgeous.
12:33Number 19, New Jersey.
12:35New York's less interesting, slightly richer, but mostly suburban neighbor would probably
12:40seem a lot cooler if it weren't so close to the big city.
12:43Sure, the infrastructure sucks, and taxes are high, but New Jersey also has the third
12:48highest wages, fourth lowest poverty rate, fourth best healthcare, second best schools,
12:53and fifth lowest crime rate.
12:55Number 18, Wisconsin.
12:57Wisconsin may be cold, but that doesn't stop the residents of America's dairy land
13:02from eating more ice cream than any other state.
13:05I mean, dairy and beer is the way of life here.
13:10And speaking of beer, it's kind of a problem with seven of America's ten drunkest cities
13:15being in the state.
13:16But that and the fact that it looks like this for half the year are pretty much the only
13:20cons about the place.
13:22Number 17, Florida.
13:25Brr!
13:26Most Wisconsinites probably wish they were in Florida this time of year, but great weather
13:30and beautiful beaches aren't the only reason people are moving here in droves.
13:35Florida's affordable, the schools are great, the economy is the ninth fastest growing,
13:39and the quality of life is tropically self-explanatory.
13:44Number 16, Iowa.
13:46Not to sound corny, but if you need a fresh start, Iowa is the place to go.
13:51Wages are good, crime is low, and it's so cheap here that it actually ranked fifth on
13:56our cheapest states to live in for 2021 video.
13:59Number 15, Connecticut.
14:01While Iowa's a great place to save money, Connecticut is a great place to make money,
14:07with the nation's sixth highest median household income at $79,000.
14:11It's also got the third best public schools, third best healthcare, and third lowest violent
14:15crime rate.
14:16But there is a huge division of wealth between the affluent suburbs and impoverished cities.
14:22Number 14, North Carolina.
14:25North Carolina's economy is skyrocketing in cities like Raleigh and Charlotte, but
14:29the rural parts are really lagging behind, which holds the whole state back with an overall
14:34poverty rate of 13.6%.
14:37At least the people, education system, and outdoor activities are outstanding though.
14:42Number 13, Maine.
14:44The rocky cliffs lining the coast and dense forests hugging the mountains and lakes easily
14:49make the land of lobsters the most beautiful state east of the Mississippi.
14:53And Maine's also by far the safest state, which makes sense since it's practically
14:58in Canada where everyone is suspiciously nice.
15:03Number 12, Maryland.
15:04Maryland is home to the highest wages in the nation, with a median household income of
15:09$86,750, which has resulted in the fifth lowest poverty rate of just 9.1%.
15:16But that doesn't tell the whole story, because while the D.C. and Baltimore suburbs are thriving,
15:21the rest of the state isn't in the best shape.
15:25Number 11, Virginia.
15:26The other state bordering D.C. might not have as high incomes as Maryland, but it's also
15:31a lot cheaper and safer with the sixth lowest violent crime rate.
15:36Not to mention, Virginia's got incredible schools, healthcare, opportunity, history,
15:41and nature.
15:42I honestly don't know how it's still a virgin, because it goes hard.
15:46Number 10, Nebraska.
15:48Yes, it's boring, but stats don't lie, and neither does the lowest unemployment rate
15:52in the nation.
15:53And with a booming economy, excellent affordability, and great schools, Nebraska really is the
15:59good life.
16:01Number 9, Hawaii.
16:02A gallon of milk may cost $5, and home values are by far the most expensive of any state,
16:08but can you really put a price on paradise?
16:11Well considering Hawaii is home to the best healthcare system, healthiest residents, fourth
16:15highest wages, lowest stress levels, best air and water quality, and highest life expectancy,
16:21I'd say that's priceless.
16:24Number 8, Idaho.
16:25There are many reasons Idaho has been the fastest growing state for four years running.
16:30Boise's one of the best cities in the country, it's the third safest state, and there are
16:34over 50 million acres of gorgeous, untouched nature.
16:39Number 7, Vermont.
16:41Once people move here, they don't leave.
16:44I promise that's not as ominous as it sounds.
16:46Basically, Vermont has such a high quality of life that no one wants to leave.
16:51There's great people, beautiful scenery, incredible infrastructure, no pollution, and
16:56it's the fourth safest state with the fifth best schools.
17:00Number 6, Colorado.
17:01The 58 14,000 foot mountains aren't the only thing that's high in Colorado, because
17:07the cost of living keeps going up.
17:09Thankfully so to the incomes, as Colorado also has the second best economy.
17:14Number 5, Minnesota.
17:16If you don't mind negative 40 in the winter, I don't know why you haven't moved to Minnesota
17:20yet.
17:21Because besides the weather, everything else here is hot, with the third best economic
17:26opportunity, third highest life expectancy, third lowest poverty rate, and wonderful healthcare
17:31and infrastructure.
17:32Plus, you get to say, Ope!
17:35Number 4, Washington.
17:37Here the mist gets so thick that you can hardly see at all, but you probably won't be spending
17:41much time outside anyway, since everyone here is a workaholic.
17:45I mean, you kinda have to be to afford the rent.
17:48The economy continues to be one of the best with no signs of slowing down, however, and
17:52the scenery is jaw-dropping.
17:55Now before we get to the final three, if you want us to update this list every year, let's
17:59hit 5,000 likes.
18:02Number 3, Massachusetts.
18:04Massachusetts is by far the most educated state, and it makes sense since it's also
18:08home to the best public schools and many of the highest paying jobs.
18:12Not to mention it's got the lowest property crime rate, second best healthcare, and so
18:17much history.
18:19Number 2, Utah.
18:21Huh?
18:22Utah?
18:23Yep, Utah totally heard me right.
18:25Not only is there breathtaking nature everywhere, Utah's also in the top 5 in pretty much every
18:31statistic that matters.
18:32Being the number one economy and second lowest unemployment and poverty rates, no wonder
18:38Utonians are the happiest residents in the country.
18:42Number 1, New Hampshire.
18:43New Hampshire is nearly perfect in every category, from being the second safest state to having
18:49by far the lowest poverty rate and best economic opportunity.
18:53Plus, the natural beauty is magical.
18:56It sure was a real battle between these 50 states, and while the granite state may be
19:01small, I don't think anyone's surprised they came out on top.
