On Friday, Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) answered questions from the press about Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate pick and former President Donald Trump’s attacks on her identity.

00:00Governor, do you expect Kamala Harris to ask you to run with her considering all your success
00:04here?
00:05I think that's a question for the Vice President.
00:06Governor, are you planning on meeting with Vice President Harris this weekend?
00:10I think any process questions like that should go directly to the Harris campaign.
00:14Governor, the last time you spoke to Vice President Harris was last Sunday, is that
00:19still true?
00:20Yeah, it is.
00:21If you're not going to the Hamptons this weekend, what are you doing instead?
00:22You all think I'm going to tell you what I'm doing?
00:23Come on, go ahead.
00:24In Philadelphia on Tuesday, by chance?
00:25I hope to be.
00:26Governor, I want to ask you about President Trump's comments.
00:27We're here at a very historically important HBCU, and the presumptive Democratic presidential
00:28nominee, Kamala Harris, attended, of course, an HBCU Howard, too.
00:29That's right.
00:30As we stand here, what do you make of President Trump's attacks on her identity?
00:31He says, in his words, she only recently quoted him as a racist.
00:32What do you make of that?
00:33I think that's a question for the Vice President.
00:34Governor, do you expect Kamala Harris to ask you to run with her considering all your success
00:35here?
00:36I think that's a question for the Vice President Harris.
00:37Governor, the last time you spoke to Vice President Harris was last Sunday, is that still
00:38true?
00:39Yeah, it is.
00:40I think it's offensive, and it is more of the same from Donald Trump.
01:01He attacks other people based on what they look like or who they pray to, who they love,
01:07the way they were raised.
01:08He tries to divide Americans because, quite frankly, he struggles with uplifting all Americans.
01:15I think it shows a profound weakness in a leader when they can't sell themselves, but
01:20instead they've got to attack other people.
01:22And attacking the identity of the Vice President is shameful.
01:26And attacking the identity of the Vice President doesn't at all reflect negatively on Vice
01:31President Harris, but shows a real insecurity about Donald Trump.
01:36Listen, this guy is nervous as hell to face Kamala Harris.
01:40He's already trying to back out of the debate.
01:42Did you notice that?
01:43Part of that is because he knows she's going to whoop him in the debate.
01:48She is a skilled prosecutor, a great communicator.
01:52But there's another reason why he doesn't really want to debate her and doesn't really
01:56want to have a conversation about the issues.
01:59And that is because he can't defend his record.
02:02He has a record of failure when he was president.
02:05I want you to think about this.
02:06When he was president, we had fewer jobs in Pennsylvania.
02:12We had less freedom and a whole lot more chaos when Donald Trump was in charge.
02:18And listen, Kamala Harris, what she proposes to do for this nation is uplifting.
02:24It is empowering.
02:26And it's going to help make sure we move all Pennsylvanians forward.
02:30From our HBCUs to our skyscraped center cities to our farmlands.
02:36And I must tell you that I've been traveling all around this commonwealth, as you know,
02:40doing my job as governor and also making sure that I tell people about the Kamala Harris
02:45that I know and that I've known for the last 20 years.
02:48Folks are excited wherever I go, rural communities, suburban, urban communities.
02:53They're fired up.
02:54They're ready to go.
02:55And I think Donald Trump's attacks speak volumes about the kind of coward that he is, about
03:01his own failings, and say nothing about the great qualifications of the vice president.
