00:00In the two weeks after US President Joe Biden dropped his re-election bid, she has gained
00:07control of the Democratic Party, filled arenas and broken fundraising records.
00:12Now, Kamala Harris has garnered enough votes from Democratic delegates to secure the party's
00:17presidential nomination.
00:19In remarks made via telephone, the US Vice President welcomed the news.
00:23I am honoured to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States
00:29and I will tell you the tireless work of our delegates, our state leaders and staff has
00:36been pivotal in making this moment possible.
00:40The announcement was also hailed by Biden, who said he couldn't be prouder of her nomination.
00:45Harris, who will become the first black woman and first Asian American at the top of a major
00:50party ticket, added that she will officially accept the nomination next week.
00:55Practically the entire party, including Biden, had endorsed her after the US President dropped
01:00out of the race amid mounting pressure from fellow Democrats.
01:04Since Biden's endorsement, Harris has made the case against former US President Donald
01:09Trump at a string of fundraisers and campaign rallies.
01:13On Friday, her campaign announced it had raised an impressive $310 million in July, the largest
01:19haul of the election cycle so far and more than twice the amount brought in by the Trump
01:23campaign last month.
01:26Harris is expected to choose her running mate for November's election by Monday.
01:30Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro are among those vying
01:34to become the new vice presidential nominee.
01:37On Tuesday, Harris and her running mate are expected to begin a four-day tour campaigning
