He was the winner of the 2001 World Short Distance Championships held in Tampere, Finland, and won the silver medal at the 2001 World Sprint Championships. In 2007 in Ukraine he won the bronze medal in the relay at the World Championships for Finland and in 2011 in France the silver medal in the long distance. Pasi Ikonen was married to the 8-time world orienteering champion Minna Kauppi, from whom he divorced in 2014. In 2021 he became the father of a baby girl. Pasi Ikonen became famous for his ability to race without any compass. Without a compass he also won the World Championships. He died on 3 August 2024 due to an astrocytoma.

Senza bussola vinse anche i mondiali.Muore il 3 agosto 2024 a causa di un astrocitoma.
