00:00What is the reason we spoke against India hosting the Olympics?
00:03I stand by it wholeheartedly because it will be a disaster if India hosts the Olympics.
00:07First and foremost, we are not a sporting superpower.
00:10For us, first goal should be that we must become a dominant force in the sporting world by winning things significantly, which we are not.
00:17Even in this Olympics, unfortunately, our performance will be very, very modest.
00:22As it is, a few metal hoops have already fallen by the wayside. A few more are there.
00:28But our performance will be very, very modest in this Olympics.
00:31Secondly, holding an Olympics has huge costs and you create infrastructure which will never use it again.
00:38Because we don't have the sporting leagues which can use these infrastructures constantly.
00:43If you do an audit of existing stadia in India, you will realize that we use it very, very sparingly.
00:49And the Olympics itself is a very expensive project and we must learn lessons from Athens and Rio, which have been complete disasters.
00:57It's okay for first world countries, which already have tremendous infrastructure, to just add on a little bit more to conduct Olympics.
01:03But for countries which don't have that kind of infrastructure, it's not just stadia, it has to be hotel rooms, it has to be roads, it has to be subway.
01:09It comes with a whole, the checklist for conducting an Olympics is huge and I think it will be a misadventure if we go on that path.
01:17And we shouldn't be doing it just for vanity sake.
