00:00Being the second highest official of the land affords one certain privileges that mere mortals can simply wish they had, like one's own security detail.
00:08This was the center of discussion at today's Senate hearing, where a lawmaker asked for an assurance from the National Police Chief regarding a particular concern of the Vice President.
00:18What that is, Daniel Manalasas reveals in this report.
00:23The Philippine National Police explained to the Senate panel the reason behind the cutback in the number of personnel in the security detail of Vice President Sara Duterte.
00:34It was tackled during the hearing on issues hounding Pastor Apolo Kibuloy.
00:40There is no political pressure. What we are doing is really to rationalize the deployment of our PNP.
00:47Because what I will say is that we need more people on the ground.
00:51We really lack a lot and to be honest, sir, what we really want is to lower our people.
00:58Senator Ronald De La Rosa also asked the PNP if there is a threat on VP Sara's life.
01:04He also has an appeal to the PNP.
01:07In the case of the Vice President, do you think there is a threat on him or not?
01:12Sir, there is no threat on him. We did not see anything. He is being loved by our people.
01:17You left 31 people. Can you give the Vice President the freedom to leave his former security personnel?
01:30Because he is complaining that you left someone but he does not know them.
01:35If you can, go back. Can I get your commitment?
01:39Of course, sir.
01:41The committee also tackled the alleged excessive force used by the PNP within the premises of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ
01:49when they implemented the arrest warrant against the religious leader over different cases.
01:54PNP Chief Marbil, meanwhile, gave this assurance to the KOJC members.
02:00I assure, as a chief PNP, that we will assure you that you just surrender Apollo Q. Buloy, 100 persons, and the four others.
02:10We are here and you will see that we follow the rules, human rights.
02:15You will only see here that we follow human rights. We assure you.
02:19I know that they are performing their job but I do hope and pray that they should be professional enough that they are not harassed like this.
02:29Marbil insists they observed proper protocols.
02:33We will show bad camps if we are really violated in human rights.
02:37But what we saw right now, that's the human rights of our police that are being harmed.
02:43Daniel Manalastas from the National TV for a new and better Philippines.
