00:00Scouse has been named as one of the top 10 most desirable accents in Britain in a new study.
00:06The top three most desirable accents in the British Isles based on their enticing features
00:12are southern Irish, Queen's English or received pronunciation and the Edinburgh accent.
00:18Scouse ranks ninth above Cardiff but below Essex. I ran pubs in London for 30 odd years
00:26and my accent coming out because they're like, oh wait mate, oh wait, my money. I'm going,
00:33what's your money? The area, they call it the money. Because of my accents,
00:40I was getting punched and all that. The more north you go, the less people like it.
00:45Talking from being from Newcastle, no one likes me down here.
00:49Foreigners, you've got them and they just like, they come from, I don't know, Spain or Germany
00:56or wherever they're from and they come to Liverpool for a holiday and we talk to them.
01:02Yeah, we make them feel welcome. As we all know, the Scouse accent varies in Liverpool itself but
01:08the research revealed it was the softer accent made world famous by the likes of Paul McCartney
01:14and the Beatles that people found most appealing.
01:18Being a Scouse, our accent is well known all around the world. I've been to America,
01:25Miami, Barbados. As soon as I open my mouth, that's where I punch a lager.
01:31You're from Liverpool, aren't you? Yeah.
01:34I can't distinguish between more southern accents but that's the general I don't like.
01:41My favourite has got to be Yorkshire accent.
01:44The research conducted by PrEPly, an accent class provider, examined 50 accents from across
01:50the British Isles using data from six distinct studies and ranked them based on attractiveness,
01:56comprehensibility and likeability.
