05:19Just so you know, St. Lucia has been participating in Olympics since 1996 and they participated
05:25since then until now with only 36 athletes.
05:29To have a gold medal already, it's a very, very big task and it's very, very amazing
05:35what they accomplished.
05:37Another island that was celebrating is Dominica.
05:39Tia Lamphon, last night, won the gold triple jump.
05:44Of course, we were all expecting Yolima Rojas to be the protagonist in this discipline.
05:50Sadly, she didn't make it, but Tia Lamphon making Dominica proud.
05:56Only two athletes from Dominica in this delegation, again, a couple of numbers.
06:01Since 1996, they've been participating.
06:03They only brought 24 athletes since Atlanta in 1996 until Paris 2024.
06:11Another island that celebrated, Grenada, Lindo and Victor got the bronze at the triple jump.
06:17Again, another number.
06:19I like numbers, so I'm going to give you a couple of stats.
06:21They've been participating since 1984, 59 athletes in total until now in Paris 2024.
06:28I give you these numbers just to demonstrate, to put in perspective how big of an accomplishment
06:33is for these small, small countries to achieve Olympic medals.
06:37Dominica, in fact, the population, the total population, excuse me, Saint Lucia, the total
06:43population of Saint Lucia, it's 180,000 people.
06:47The Camp Nou, Barcelona Stadium, seats 100,000 people.
06:51Almost the whole population of Saint Lucia can fit in two stadiums of Barcelona.
06:57It's just to prove, to demonstrate how amazing these results are.
07:02In other news, today in boxing was a very good day for Dominican Republic.
07:06Two of their boxers achieved the bronze medal in the first turn, Junior Alcantara with a
07:11very controversial fight.
07:13He fought the local, Bilal Benana on the 41 kilograms.
07:19It was a controversial fight.
07:21Of course, the crowd was supporting the French athlete, but a lot of people say that the
07:25referees also got affected by the environment because the fight should have been called

08:53to call him the greatest of all time.
08:54But I think the numbers don't lie.
08:57He has the most Grand Slams out of anybody, 24.
09:00He has 40 Masters 1000, which are the next level tournament.
09:04He has more than anybody.
09:06He has seven Masters finals, ATP finals, more than anybody else.
09:11And right now he has one gold medal and one bronze medal, two Olympic medals, the same
09:16as Federer, the same as Nadal.
09:18So I think the competition is over.
09:21I think Novak, with this medal, he is going to be considered the greatest of all time,
09:26at least in terms of championship, in terms of titles that he won in his career, Carlos.
09:33You were talking before about the emotion, about those kids from Dominican Republic,
09:38the boxer.
09:39I was surprised when he won the match, a guy who has 37 years old.
09:44He's the oldest who played a final.
09:49He was shaking.
09:50He was really nervous.
09:52On the other side, Carlos Alcaraz, when he lost, there was a picture of him, and he was
09:57almost crying.
09:58He was frustrated, because it must be awful, because he's been playing great in this tournament,

10:43Whether they win or they lose, I think they're still in that high of adrenaline, high of

10:57still get very, very upset when they lose, and that shows you the drive of competition,
11:02the drive of winning that they still have.
11:04Even at 37, Diokovic could easily be in his house, watching tennis, traveling the world,
11:10but he's still competing.
11:11He's competing with players that sometimes are 17, 18 years younger than him, and he's
11:16still giving it his all because he has that drive, that drive to be the best, that drive
11:21to succeed, that drive to win a gold medal, and that's what happened today.

11:47She gave the first gold medal to Puerto Rico, and she was really, like Eduardo was saying,
11:54she was really emotional, and I had the chance to interview her two days later, and she was
11:59almost crying when I was talking to her, but let's see what she did in that Olympic
12:03game that was something fantastic for Puerto Rico.
12:10But for some, it was an unexpected victory.
12:13Puerto Rican Monica Puig was indeed unstoppable at Rio 2016, winning constantly in every event,
12:21one after the other, until she reached the final to face German favorite Angelique Kerber.
12:27American Serena Williams, world number one and big favorite, had already been eliminated
12:31in the third round of the tournament.
12:34After her triumph, Monica Puig asserted that the key to her victory was mental strength.
12:39She started to believe even more in herself.
12:42With every match she won, she kept learning and kept growing.
12:46Puig was named Best Female Athlete of Rio 2016 at the Association of National Olympic
12:52Committees awards.
12:54Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in September 1993, Puig grew up with her family in Miami.
13:00At the age of six, her mother became her first coach and introduced her to tennis, until
13:05Puig turned professional at the age of 16.
13:08The island of Puerto Rico began sending delegations to the Olympic Games in 1948.
13:13Until Puig's triumph, Puerto Rico had only eight medals, one of them gold.
13:18It came closest in boxing, between its Olympic debut in London 1948 and Atlanta 1996, and
13:25in wrestling in London 2012.
13:37Let's talk about Argelia.
13:39I won the first gold medal in this tournament, in this Olympics, France 2024.
13:45They do it in gymnastics.
13:47It was something amazing.
13:48They are not used to do great in this discipline.
13:52Argelia has the first gold medal in gymnastics.
13:57Let's talk about another legend of the sport of our people, of our countries.

14:05Claudia Paul, she gave the first gold medal to Costa Rica.
14:09She's a legend.
