The Evan & Tiki crew discuss the Giants inter squad scrimmage with the Lions and how they are building a culture.
Transcript
00:00When we showed up at the facility today, there was, I'm not going to lie, for the reporters
00:04and everybody, and wait until you see what happens with this team versus the Lions.
00:07There was a negative aura to what they had seen in camp.
00:10There were noticeable players, but overall it was a team.
00:12And we walked away today and it feels like every reporter is saying it from here to Kington,
00:15any fan that was in the stands today.
00:18The Giants flat-out, Tiki, looked like they belonged versus the Detroit Lions, and now
00:21the question is, is that a one-day thing or should we up our expectations for this team?
00:27That's the hard thing because this doesn't mean anything.
00:29We talk about how much fight the Giants have and how exciting it is to see the skirmishes
00:34and Daniel Jones being a part of this, but the reality is, until you win, until you do
00:39it consistently, then you're not going to be taken seriously.
00:44And the perfect example is the team that they're scrimmaging against.
00:48So the Detroit Lions, three years ago, four years ago, hired Dan Campbell.
00:54And they're better, right?
00:57They have that fight in them.
00:58You can see it.
01:00You can see how he talks.
01:01You can see how his team responds to him.
01:03But they don't go out and set the world on fire.
01:06But what they did do was set a culture and set a precedent that as they started to get
01:12more and more talent on this team, it culminated in what we saw last year, which is they're
01:18a game away from getting to the Super Bowl and a tight game, obviously, last year in
01:23the NFC Championship game.
01:24So you know that once the talent gets there, if the culture and the fight is right, then
01:30the team has a chance.
01:31It doesn't feel like, oh, we got this put-together team right now, but what you have is what
01:38I talked about last season with the Giants.
01:40They fight, right?
01:42They had no business being in some of the games that they were in at the end of the
01:45year last year.
01:46They just didn't have the talent out there.
01:48Their quarterbacks hurt.
01:49Saquon was banged up at some points of the season.
01:52Your wide receiving core is nowhere near where it is now.
01:56The offensive line is a group of rotating inferior pieces, yet they were in games.
02:03They had this fight about them.
02:04And so the only thing I take away from today from the Giants is that that fight is part
02:09of their culture.
02:10And it's what we saw with the Lions three years ago, and it's where you can hope as
02:14long as you keep this thing together and don't get so anxious about firing a coach because
02:19of disappointing whatever, you know that the system is right, the program is right,
02:25the people are starting to get right, and eventually you'll see success.
02:28I don't know when that's going to happen, but I love the fight that this team has.
