00:00In summer, the gangers cut the long grass on the lion's side, raking it into heaps to dry in the sun.
00:09At this time of year, Percy stops where they have been cutting.
00:15The men load up his empty wagons and he pulls them to the station.
00:19Toby then takes them to the hills for the farmers to feed their stock.
00:31Wheeeee!
00:49Percy gave a ghostly whistle.
00:51Don't be frightened, Thomas, he laughed.
00:54It's only me. Your ugly fizz is enough to frighten anyone, said Thomas.
00:59You're like... ugly indeed, I am.
01:02A green caterpillar with red stripes, continued Thomas firmly.
01:06You crawl like one too.
01:08I don't.
01:10Who's been late every afternoon this week?
01:12It's the hay.
01:14I can't help that, said Thomas.
01:16Time's time and the fat controller relies on me to keep it.
01:20I can't if you crawl in the hay till all hours.
01:23Green caterpillar indeed, fumed Percy.
01:27He set off to collect some hay to take to the harbour.
01:32Everyone says I'm handsome, or at least nearly everyone.
01:36Anyway, my curves are better than Thomas's corners.
01:40Thomas says I'm always late, he grumbled.
01:43I'm never late, or at least only a few minutes.
01:47What's that to Thomas? He can always catch up time further on.
01:51All the same, he and his driver decided to start home early.
01:56Then came trouble.
02:04A crate of treacle was upset all over Percy.
02:12Percy was cross.
02:15He was still sticky when he puffed away.
02:20The wind was blowing fiercely.
02:23Look at that, exclaimed the driver.
02:26The wind caught the piled hay, tossing it up and over the track.
02:31The lion climbed here.
02:33Take a run at it, Percy, his driver advised.
02:36Percy gathered speed.
02:38But the hay made the rails slippery and his wheels wouldn't grip.
02:42Time after time he stalled with spinning wheels
02:46and had to wait till the line ahead was cleared before he could start again.
02:54Everyone was waiting.
02:56Thomas seethed impatiently.
02:59Ten minutes late. I warned him.
03:01Passengers will complain and the fat controller.
03:04Then they all saw Percy.
03:07They laughed and shouted.
03:14Sorry I'm late, Percy panted.
03:17Look what's crawled out of the hay, tears Thomas.
03:21What's wrong, asked Percy.
03:23Talk about hairy caterpillars, puffed Thomas.
03:26It's worth being late to have seen you.
03:36When Percy got home, his driver showed him what he looked like in a mirror.
03:42Bust my buffers, no wonder they all laughed.
03:46I'm just like a woolly bear.
03:48Please clean me before Toby comes.
03:51But it was no good.
03:53Thomas told Toby all about it.
04:07Instead of talking about sensible things like playing ghosts,
04:11Thomas and Toby made jokes about woolly bear caterpillars
04:15and other creatures which crawl about in hay.
04:18They laughed a lot.
04:20But Percy thought they were really being very silly indeed.
