Transcript
00:00It's been a long time since the Philippines and Indonesia became friends.
00:06In fact, our bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia were established in 1949.
00:13So, the bilateral relations between the two countries have been going on for 75 years.
00:17Joining us in the studio this morning is His Excellency, the Indonesian Ambassador, Agus Weyjoyo.
00:26Good morning.
00:27Good morning, Ambassador, and welcome to Rise and Shine, Pilipinas.
00:31So, as mentioned, we have 75 years of bilateral relationships.
00:37Yes.
00:38Can you tell us, what's your opinion about the relationship of Philippines and Indonesia?
00:44I think it's been very well, although that in ancient history, we think that we came from the same roots.
00:55It is evident from similar words that we have from the Philippine local language and Indonesian local language.
01:03But although that in modern history, we came through different paths,
01:08and that is that, again, we had different colonial powers and we had different political orientation during the Cold War.
01:18But after the Philippines and Indonesia gained independence, it was a very smooth ride during our bilateral relations.
01:27Well, Ambassador Weyjoyo, looking forward, what can the Philippines expect from Indonesia in terms of building stronger ties in different aspects or sectors?
01:38First of all, is that because we share a common geographical area, especially that both are member states of ASEAN,
01:50I think we have to share the same vision of what we would like to see of the region.
01:55With that, I think political common vision and collaboration would be the utmost important, because that is the start for everything.
02:04After that, there are opportunities for collaborations, especially in the economies, so that we can contribute to each other.
02:21But is there a certain sector or aspect of our relationship between the Philippines and Indonesia that you would like to focus on for this year, Ambassador?
02:32Focus? Well, as I said, economy, I think, would be the most concrete aspect of the relationship,
02:44because that is what is mostly felt by the peoples of the Philippines and of Indonesia.
02:54Right now, we are having, again, very smooth relations and collaborations in the economic field, and we are always trying to be contributive to each other.
03:10Well, Ambassador, you will be having an important event this coming August 17. Can you tell us more about this?
03:17Well, August 17, 1945, I was not born yet, but I will try to tell you what I know.
03:26It is the National Independence Day of Indonesia.
03:30It was then that the leaders of our national independence struggle, Sukarno and Hatta, proclaimed our independence,
03:38which eventually, Sukarno and Hatta became the first president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia.
03:46So, what are the activities that we could expect on the 17th of August about your Independence Day celebration, Ambassador?
03:53We have started the chain of activities last 27th of July with a kick-off by organizing a fun walk for Indonesian community.
04:07Also, there is the protocol of flag hoisting ceremony that is exactly on the 17th of August.
04:22And there will be a bazaar also on the 23rd and 25th of August, and the peak of it would be the diplomatic reception to be held on the 5th of September at Dusitani, Manila.
04:39Okay.
04:40Well, are Filipinos are welcome to join your activities and festivities, sir?
04:45You are all invited, and maybe if we require some of your contribution of master of ceremonies, we can invite you.
04:55Surely, it would be our pleasure.
04:56All right, we have some items or artifacts here on display.
05:00Can you tell us more about these items that we have here, Ambassador?
05:04These items represent the culture of ethnic groups of Indonesia, and our ethnic groups are such diverse that they are distinctly different from one to the other.
05:18Yes.
05:19You want me to explain one of them?
05:21Yes.
05:22Is this a religious item, sir?
05:23Okay, this one is from the Javanese ethnic group, and because I'm from Java, I think I will explain that.
05:34It is called Lorong-Blorong.
05:38It depicts a pair of groom and bridegroom on a traditional wedding dress.
05:48It is believed to bring happiness and welfare for those who own these in their homes.
05:58How about this one, sir?
06:00You're asking more of the questions now.
06:05This is from Bali.
06:06Okay, very nice.
06:09Let me see now.
06:11Again, this also symbolizes good fortune, welfare, and health.
06:19I think it's a sort of a giant.
06:27Usually, the dancer dances in front of massive kacak dancers also.
06:37Oh, very interesting.
06:38Lastly, Ambassador, I would like to know what is your message that you would like to convey to the Filipinos, and of course, to our dear President, President Ferdinand R. Marcos.
06:49Yes, I think that on behalf of the Indonesian government, I would like to convey our gratitude and appreciation to the government of the Philippines.
07:02For the existing bilateral cooperation.
07:07Indeed, we have accomplished many bilateral achievements thanks to our friendship, cooperation, and mutual support between the two countries.
07:15As we are about to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and in November 2024, the Indonesian embassy has prepared various activities.
07:28I would like to invite all Filipinos to join the celebration, to come to our events, and experience Indonesia's diverse culture and traditions.
07:39Thank you for your time, Ambassador.
07:42We're hoping for stronger ties between the Philippines and Indonesia.
07:47That would be our hope also.
07:48Thank you very much.
07:49Again, we are joined by His Excellency Ambassador Agus Vidroyo, Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines.
07:55Again, we look forward to the continuous progress of the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia.
08:00As we say in the Philippines, Maraming Salamat.
08:02Maraming Salamat, Ambassador.
08:04Thank you very much.
