00:00The Brahmin rejects one who knows him as different from the self.
00:08The Kshatriya rejects one who knows him as different from the self.
00:14The worlds reject one who knows them as different from the self.
00:21The gods reject one who knows them as different from the self.
00:27The Vedas reject one who knows them as different from the self.
00:33The beings reject one who knows them as different from the self.
00:40The all rejects one who knows it as different from the self.
00:47This Brahmin, this Kshatriya, these worlds, these gods, these Vedas, these beings and
00:51this all are that self.
01:00The Brahmin, the Kshatriya, the worlds, the Vedas, all the beings in the world, they all
01:08essentially represent the mind.
01:13All of them are images, appearances, objects in the mind.
01:20Yajnavalkya is saying, the worlds reject the one who takes the worlds as different from
01:32the self.
01:36Let's simplify it to just say that the world or the mind rejects the one who takes the
01:44world as the world and not something beyond it.
01:49If you take the world as the world, you will be rejected by the world and you will suffer
01:53in the world.
01:55And that is the reason, the only reason why anybody ever suffers.
02:02You take the world as the world, you do not take the world as a projection, as an image,
02:09as a forthcoming, as the leaves of something else.
02:20If you take the world as a reality in itself, you are mistaken and you will pay for your
02:26mistake.
02:32If you take the world as a reality, then you will take yourself as a smaller reality, as
02:47a limited, partial, isolated existence in the world.
02:56You might be big, but the world would always appear bigger than you and smallness is not
03:02something that you can ever compromise with.
03:11Smallness cannot satisfy you.
03:15The nature of all beings is largeness, infinity and that is why desire exists, that is why
03:25you want more and more and that is why the truth has been called as Brahm, coming from
03:33the root word which means ever expanding.
03:42Our nature is limitlessness, but when you take yourself as a small person in the world,
03:49you have already defined yourself as small.
03:53If you define yourself as small and you see only the world around you, then the only way
04:02you can think of to become big is to use the world.
04:12You conclude that you are a small being who must use the world to become large.
04:23The world now becomes both an opportunity and a threat.
04:27The world is now an enemy that wants to take away from you that which you already have
04:33and the world is now an opportunity from which you can extract something that will make you
04:40bigger and that is the life of the worldly man, a life of fear and greed.
04:49He lives in fear that that which he has will be taken away and he lives in greed that there
04:57is so much lying outside of him available for exploitation and consumption.
05:07Both are suffering because that which you have is anyway going to be taken away.
05:15You are trying to protect that which does not belong to you.
05:21You are trying to hold on to that which you anyway do not own.
05:28It is certain that you will lose it and you know that and so you suffer.
05:35All your efforts towards securing who you are go waste but you still keep trying.
05:46That is as tragic as it is foolish and you also keep getting excited in ambition.
06:05The world is such a huge temptation.
06:09Why can't I get that?
06:10Why can't I get that?
06:11Yagyavalkya is saying, if you take the world as real, all that you will get is suffering.
06:20Do not forget that that which you want from the world is not the world but satisfaction.
06:27You do not want a new car, you want peace through the car and you have never bothered
06:33to examine whether the car coming from the world can ever give you peace.
06:43You do not want victories, you do not want achievements.
06:46You want a certain contentment through your achievement and you have never bothered to
06:51enquire whether contentment can ever come through achievement.
06:58Take the world as real and you have taken the keyhole as the house.
07:08How many of you would be comfortable sleeping in a keyhole?
07:15But that is what we want, contentment through achievement.
07:18Achievement is so small like a keyhole and contentment is large like a house.
07:24But you want achievement rather than contentment thinking that achievement will give you contentment.
07:31Can the keyhole ever give you the house?
07:34You go to the keyhole and you get stuck there.
07:37It is so small you cannot pass through it.
07:40Your achievements are going to be smaller than you because they are your achievements.
07:45If you are the man, your achievement will be the keyhole in front of the man.
07:51How will the man feel sleeping in the keyhole?
07:54How will the man feel even passing through the keyhole?
07:59Nothing that you do can be bigger than the doer that you are.
08:05If whatever you do is always going to be as small or smaller than yourself, then how do
08:13you expect your doing to bring greatness to you?
08:22Take the world as a source of contentment and all you will get is suffering.
08:39Know what you want from the world and you will have it without using the world.
08:48If you can know why the beauty and the prosperity of the world appeals to you, then the knowing
08:59itself is the beauty and the prosperity.
09:06If you do not know what you are seeking, then you keep running after something that
09:12you are not really seeking and that is your punishment.
09:22It is like a thirsty man gathering a lot of salt and spices when that which he really
09:30wants is some water.
09:33Now even if you accumulate all the salt and spices and chillies of the world, would you
09:39get what you want?
09:41Would you?
09:44Would you?
09:45We all have a lot.
09:47The question to ask is, is that what we ever wanted?
09:53There is nobody sitting here who does not have anything.
09:56You have everything, something in physical terms and a lot more in mental terms.
10:05You have cars, houses, property and you also have thoughts, ideologies, respect, prestige,
10:13opinions.
10:16Is that what you really want?
10:20Is that of any real use?
10:24If that is of any real use, why are you still searching?
10:28Why are these eyes still thirsty?
10:36Why does nobody ever stop except a few, a few like these, like a Krishna, like a Buddha,
10:45like a Kabir, like a Nanak?
10:49Why don't people stop even after having so much?
10:57Because what you have is not at all what you want and remember that what you want is just
11:06that which you really are, which means seeking is the only barrier against realization.
11:20You have looked for it and you have lost it because what you want is what you are.
11:25If your want is so immediate, then even half a step taken towards achievement of the want
11:47is half a step taken away from yourself and from realization of the want.
12:08You start choosing, assuming that you do not have it.
12:13Is your assumption right?
12:20You look for completeness assuming that there is something missing and incomplete about you.
12:27Are you really sure who told you that you are incomplete?
12:32Why do you carry this deserted look on your face?
12:39Who taught you to beg forlorn like a beggar obviously?
12:52When Maitreyi is prepared to let go of the husband, that is the moment she becomes one
13:16with the husband.
13:17Till the time she keeps clutching and begging and weeping, the husband is lost upon her.
13:34The way to get the highest is to let go of the highest.
13:47Let go of everything including even the highest.
13:55Letting go of the highest is absolutely necessary because anyway everything that you aim is
14:02just a proxy for the highest.
14:11You are alright as you are.
14:14You are already there.
14:23Drop all thoughts of incompleteness and when you start dropping thoughts of incompleteness,
14:30you might be surprised seeing that all your thoughts are of incompleteness.
14:40You never think without thinking of something as important.
14:53Would you ever think if everything is not really important?
14:58Whenever you think there is an object of thought and that object, do you know in your
15:05thought is the God object, objectification of God is the only sin and every object that
15:19you deem as important becomes a proxy for God.
15:27The proof is your devotion.
15:32When you are thinking of something, are you not fully devoted to it?
15:36Are you not so concentrated and focused when you are thinking even of a morsel of food
15:47is not that morsel the only object that clouds and dominates your mind?
15:57Do you see the status that you have given to food at that moment?
16:01What is the status?
16:03The status is of God because only God is to be allowed to dominate and possess the mind
16:11but we allow so many things to dominate us.
16:14Whenever you allow a thing to dominate you, you have given that thing the status of God
16:21and that is blasphemy.
16:25That is something for which you can never be forgiven.
16:33Let the world be important for you and you have made the world your God.
16:43You will be punished and we are in fact punished.
16:55God Bless.
