00:00Protests have continued throughout Nigeria as anger mounts over economic
00:04hardships. While these latest demonstrations on Monday have seen fewer
00:08people on the streets, hundreds showed up nonetheless in Lagos and a few northern
00:14states. That was despite a call by President Bola Tinubu for these latest
00:18protests to end. With enduring restlessness, Tinubu on Monday summoned a
00:23meeting of security chiefs in the capital Abuja. A curfew was meanwhile
00:27declared in northern Kaduna state, now the sixth state since protests began
00:31over surging inflation on Thursday. At least 13 people have been reported dead
00:36in the violence that's ensued. Locals saying they are desperate to take a
00:40listen.
00:57This is unempathetic. We do not think that the president really understands us.
01:02You cannot be claiming that you have heard us and you are prepared to listen and
01:08dialogue with us, while at the same time asking us to suspend our democratic
01:15actions. So this protest is once again an attempt, you know, to demonstrate that we are not going to allow
01:25civilian dictatorship in this country. Over the next five days, if the government, if
01:31the president refuses to address the demands of Nigerians, of protesters, we
01:37would re-strategize and we'll sustain this protest across Nigeria. And that is
01:42not a threat, that is a promise.
