00:00A few days ago, as soon as Jio increased the rate of its plans,
00:04in just a few hours, Airtel and VI's prices were also seen to rise.
00:08After which people got so angry that they started thinking about porting their SIMs.
00:13But who should they port?
00:15Because these are the three companies that are ruling the entire Indian telecom sector.
00:20And in these too, the majority of market share is present only with Jio and Airtel.
00:25Whereas, at one time, the BSNL that led this market is now just a name.
00:30Because if a person even thinks of porting in BSNL,
00:33then its useless network and service does not let people switch.
00:37In this case, you must be thinking that is there any player at this time
00:41who can come to the market and forcefully back Jio and Airtel?
00:45Because for now, as a consumer, we need a new and capable telecom company.
00:51By the way, let me tell you that Aircel still has an unused spectrum in buy circles.
00:56Because of which, the discussion of Aircel's comeback in the market is also on fire.
01:01But the question is that even if a new company comes to the market,
01:05will it be able to stand against Jio and Airtel?
01:08Is BSNL really so powerful that it can face these giants?
01:12And why does this market need more telecom companies?
01:16We will know everything in today's video.
01:20So friends, when Jio was offering us free data and call,
01:23we enjoyed it a lot.
01:25However, later when it removed the free offer and made it a pet,
01:29people adjusted their minds in such a way that it had to happen sometime.
01:33And yes, because of Jio, the other companies present at that time
01:37also had to reduce their rates a lot.
01:40But now suddenly, the increase of up to 25% is
01:43very heavy on a common man's budget.
01:46If Jio increased the price, then how would Airtel and VI stay behind?
01:50Now basically, there is no special place for VI in the market.
01:54But Jio and Airtel have created a duopoly together.
01:58And the situation is that even if they increase the price by 5 times,
02:02we can't do anything.
02:04Yes, if we look at the telecom industry 10 years ago, it was completely different.
02:09Because at that time, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance Communications,
02:12Tata Docomo, BSNL, Airtel, Uninor, Videocon, and MTNL
02:17were present in the market.
02:20And they were providing very good service in their area at that time.
02:25And because of so many players, there used to be a fair competition in the market.
02:30But the question arises that 10 years ago,
02:33if there were so many telecom companies in the market,
02:36then why are there only 4 today?
02:38After all, what is the reason for the destruction behind these other companies?
02:42Actually, friends, there are many reasons behind the closure of these companies.
02:47But the first is 2G spectrum scam, which is one of the most popular scams in the country.
02:53Actually, in 2008, DOT, i.e. Department of Telecommunication,
02:57started allocating 2G spectrum.
03:00Now, the telecom minister of that time, A. Raja,
03:03started giving licenses to companies on the policy of first come, first served.
03:09It means that the companies that come first,
03:11they will be given spectrum at a low price.
03:13The effect of this was that the companies that were not eligible for the spectrum,
03:17they also got the license.
03:19And seeing this policy, many new companies also came into the market
03:23who did not have any experience related to the telecom sector.
03:27Later, in the year 2010, when the Controller and Auditor General of India,
03:31i.e. CAG, published a report,
03:34then it was told that how this whole scam happened.
03:38And how the government has lost Rs. 1,76,000 crores due to this scam.
03:44Now, after the report came out,
03:46public and political pressure on the government increased a lot.
03:50People started asking for action on this matter as soon as possible.
03:53After which A. Raja was arrested and the entire case reached the Supreme Court.
03:58After reaching the bottom of the matter, the Supreme Court,
04:01on February 2, 2012, gave its verdict and said that
04:04this allocation is completely unconstitutional,
04:07in which the authorities have done a lot of arbitrariness and misused their power.
04:12And friends, in the same way, 122 spectrum licenses were cancelled,
04:16after which many telecom companies were locked forever.
04:20And among them, UNINOR, UAE's 38 Lakh DB,
04:24Russian company Systema, and MTS, a joint venture of Satyam Group.
04:30But friends, the situation was not as bad as it is today.
04:34Because even after 2G scam, in the telecom sector,
04:37companies like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, Tata, Docomo were present,
04:41due to which people still had multiple options available.
04:45After the Supreme Court's decision,
04:47the government started allocating spectrum again,
04:51and for this, the auction was done in the right way,
04:54which was very competitive.
04:56And because of this, the prices of spectrum were also bid very high.
05:00Now friends, telecom companies had no option other than
05:03buying spectrum at an expensive price,
05:06so they had a lot of financial burden.
05:09Even most of the companies had to take a loan to buy spectrum,
05:13but after this, due to high debt and financial pressure,
05:16telecom companies had to face a lot of problems in running their operations.
05:21Now friends, all these telecom companies were struggling with these problems,
05:25that on 5 September 2016, Jio was launched,
05:28which changed the entire telecom sector.
05:32Because at the time every company was busy providing 3G service,
05:36then Jio spent 3.5 lakh crore rupees
05:39and introduced a high-speed 4G network in India,
05:42that too for free.
05:44And those who were forced to use limited internet in very expensive plans,
05:48and used to spend a whole month in 1-2 GB data,
05:51at that time Jio started giving internet and calling services for free,
05:55that too unlimited.
05:57Now friends, users enjoyed this free offer a lot,
06:00but this gave a big shock to the Indian telecom sector.
06:04Jio kept all its services free for 6 months,
06:08and when the plan was introduced, it was very cheap.
06:11After that, even though they didn't want,
06:13other companies had to reduce their prices.
06:16Due to this strategy of Jio,
06:18Financially weak companies fell into huge debts,
06:21and Tata, Docomo, Aircel and many such companies
06:25had to declare bankruptcy.
06:27Now there were only 5 telecom companies left in the market,
06:30Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and BSNL.
06:33Now since Airtel was very strong financially,
06:36so it somehow survived.
06:39And today they are the only company
06:41which is standing strong in front of Jio.
06:44In 2018, seeing the financial pressure and high competition,
06:48Vodafone and Idea decided to merge with each other,
06:52and then on 31 August 2018,
06:54a combined entity named Vodafone Idea Limited was created,
06:58which we know today as VI.
07:00And friends, after this merger,
07:02these two companies got some strength,
07:05but only for a short time.
07:07Because in the year 2019,
07:09a court decision was made,
07:11that 58,254 crores were left over from VI.
07:14Actually, in 1999,
07:16the government had made a rule,
07:18under which all telecom companies
07:20have to pay 8% of their revenue as a license fee.
07:24According to the rules,
07:26telecom and non-telecom services
07:29have to pay 8% of their revenue as a license fee.
07:33But friends, telecom companies said
07:36that the license fee should only be on the revenue
07:39earned from the telecom service.
07:41That's why they won't give the money
07:43as a license fee,
07:45which was coming from non-telecom services.
07:47However, friends, in October 2019,
07:49the court decided that
07:51all telecom companies have to follow
07:53the rules that have already been defined.
07:56And friends, the biggest impact of this decision
07:59was on VI,
08:00because it had to pay 58,254 crores to the government,
08:03which was more than the rest of the telecom companies.
08:07However, Jio came in 2016,
08:09so the government had to pay the lowest amount.
08:12Now friends, Jio and Airtel have paid this money,
08:15but they are already in heavy debt.
08:18Arranging such a big amount for VI
08:20had become a very big challenge.
08:23And friends, in return for this remaining amount,
08:25the government named VI's 32% share in February 2023.
08:31In this way, VI, who had come to meet Jio and Airtel,
08:35got stuck in debt.
08:37Because of this, this company became
08:39even more financially weak,
08:41which quickly affected their infrastructure.
08:44Complaints about their services
08:46increased among people,
08:48and finally the company lost its reputation.
08:51Apart from this, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India,
08:54i.e. Trike, according to VI,
08:56from November 2023 to February 2024,
08:59was losing more than a million subscribers every month.
09:02And it is clear from this that VI
09:04does not seem to clash with Jio and Airtel far and wide.
09:08In this case, is it right to expect from BSNL?
09:11Because the way people are importing their SIM
09:14in BSNL after increasing Jio's price,
09:17many people think that
09:19BSNL will destroy their duopoly.
09:22But to be honest, this is not in BSNL's hands.
09:25Because although BSNL has a very large network base,
09:28but due to its old infrastructure,
09:31we get a very weak signal.
09:33And this is the reason that in today's high-speed internet era,
09:37BSNL fails to give people the experience
09:40that Jio and Airtel are giving.
09:42Apart from this, BSNL is far behind other companies
09:45in network and technology upgrades.
09:48Because where Airtel and Jio have launched 5G,
09:51BSNL is now preparing to bring 4G.
09:54This is because of being a government company,
09:57BSNL gets a lot of financial support from the government,
10:00but despite this, it is not able to improve its services.
10:04Actually, because it is a government company,
10:07BSNL has to face slow decision-making,
10:10lengthy approval process, and many such complexities.
10:13In addition, despite having a large workforce,
10:16the productivity of BSNL employees is very low
10:19compared to private players.
10:21Apart from this, if you have been a BSNL user,
10:24then its poor customer service must have also bothered you a lot.
10:27And friends, due to all these reasons,
10:30people have gone far away from BSNL.
10:33And the BSNL that used to be the market king,
10:36is now fighting for its survival.
10:46In this, one last question remains,
10:49will any new player come to the market
10:51that will be able to end Airtel and Jio's arbitrariness?
10:54Now, some time ago, people thought that
10:57Gautam Adani will do this work,
10:59because during the 2022 spectrum auction,
11:02when Adani Group bought 5G spectrum,
11:04then people thought that Gautam Adani
11:06is now going to take entry in the telecom sector.
11:09But the public's dreams were shattered
11:11when they found out that Adani has bought a very limited spectrum,
11:15whose purpose is not to enter the telecom sector,
11:18but only to make advanced technologies
11:20and better communication systems for their businesses.
11:23In this case, if we remove Adani from the list,
11:26then who is it,
11:27whose telecom sector can have the possibility of entry?
11:30Now, the names of some old players also come up again and again.
11:34Because Airtel and Anil Ambani's reliance communication,
11:37which was shut down after the arrival of Jio,
11:39they still have a lot of unused spectrum left.
11:42In this case, if these players want,
11:44they can return to the market.
11:46But still I don't think
11:48any of these two will come to this competitive market
11:51to struggle again.
11:53Because for this, they will have to go through many challenges,
11:56which is very difficult for any company to come back.
12:00Because if we look at Vodafone and Idea,
12:02then 8 years ago,
12:04these two used to be a very big name in the telecom sector
12:07and they had excellent infrastructure and a large customer base.
12:11In this case, when these two are struggling,
12:13then how can a new company,
12:15which has to start everything from almost zero,
12:17survive?
12:19That's why we can say that
12:21in the telecom sector of India,
12:23the space for the comeback of a new or any old company
12:26has almost run out.
12:28And no new player is currently
12:30seen entering this market.
12:33But friends, if someone still enters,
12:35then we should fully support him.
12:37Because this will end the duopoly of Jio and Airtel,
12:41along with increasing competition in the telecom sector,
12:44which will increase the pressure on other companies
12:46to make their services better
12:48and keep the price reasonable.
12:51What do you have to say about this price hike
12:53of Airtel and Jio and their arbitrariness?
12:56Do tell us by commenting.
