Brett says the families of 9/11 victims were once again kept in the dark ... as was the case when the plea deal blindsided Brett and the folks he reps.

Brett's been demanding more transparency from the feds.

00:00We haven't heard anything still from the DOD, from Secretary Austin's department, his office,
00:07or the White House.
00:09And that's part of our complaint here is that the families seem to be kept on the outside
00:14of all of these discussions.
00:16We've said from the very get go that this is personal to us.
00:19We are the most affected by any of these decisions.
00:22We would appreciate either a heads up or a meeting or a chance to have discussions to
00:26let the White House and DOD know where we stand on these issues.
00:32And again, I keep going back to the fact that we need truth and justice and accountability.
00:37And a trial is the best way for us to do that.
00:40So happy to see that a plea deal appears to temporarily be off the table.
00:45My biggest grievance with the plea deal was the fact that it would allow these individuals
00:51to remain in jail for life without ever knowing, without ever having discovery or without ever
00:59having a trial, without knowing who tasked them, who asked them to do these certain things.
01:04So a trial, in my opinion, is the best way for justice.
01:09It's the best way for the truth to come out.
01:11Certainly, there was an impressive amount of media surrounding this issue.
01:16There was a lot of criticism from myself, our group and the 9-11 community at large and did that weigh into it.
01:25That's anyone's guess. If I'm Secretary Austin, I'm sure he heard the pushback on it.
01:32I think that the administration was sort of hoping that this would quietly happen and that there wouldn't be a lot of attention given to it.
01:39But it just, you know, the timing of it wasn't great.
01:42It was on the heels of our trial against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
01:45And we had just gained so much momentum there.
01:47This felt like a betrayal and it felt like a step back.
01:50So quite possibly it could have been the actions of our groups.
01:54And but I can't confirm that.
01:56I personally have not spoken to anybody, nor have I heard of any other family member that has spoken to the DOD or anyone in the White House on this.
