00:06In court documents filed on July 24th and obtained by Billboard, Kehlani's ex-partner
00:11Javon Young-White has petitioned to gain legal and full custody of their 5-year-old daughter.
00:17Young-White claims he has attempted to retrieve his daughter in the past but was allegedly
00:21physically restrained and threatened by members of what he referred to as a cult.
00:26In the filing he claims Kehlani has been involved in this cult for the past few years and appears
00:31that this cult controls her actions and her behavior, including when it comes to the upbringing
00:36of our daughter.
00:37Young-White, whose name does not appear on their daughter's birth certificate, claims,
00:41"'Everyone else has a bigger say-so when it comes to the upbringing of our daughter
00:45than I do.'"
00:46And he has requested a copy of both the child's birth certificate and social security number,
00:51both to no avail.
00:53He ended the filing by saying,
00:54"'I am not here to disparage Kehlani, however the environment that she has created for herself
00:59is not the type of environment that a child should be living, and therefore I bring myself
01:04to the mercy and wisdom of the court to save my daughter before it's too late.'"
01:08Kehlani has not yet publicly responded to the allegations in Young-White's petition
01:12for custody.
01:13Billboard has reached out to reps for both the singer and her former partner for comment.
