00:00Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of my proposed future British tank tech tree series
00:05um this episode we're dealing with the tank destroyer slash assault guns
00:10um before I get started I know the Sherman Firefly was not a tank destroyer or an assault gun
00:16um as far as I'm aware it was actually classified as a medium tank but as you can see
00:20there aren't any medium tanks on here in fact I think there's only one pre-war British medium
00:25tank in existence or that could fit in the timeline or tech tree um I've sort of put
00:31in light tanks um so I've the so I've put the Firefly in the tank destroyer's assault gun line
00:38just so you know it could be needed but um yeah just so it's it seemed like the most relevant
00:43place to put it after medium tanks um but anyway before I start waffling on too much we'll get
00:48straight into the episode now the first tank we'll be looking at is the Churchill Mark 1 um
00:54well a bit of another bit of a disclaimer or pointing out um in my infantry tanks episode
01:00I did put the um Churchill Mark 1 2 forward it could the Churchill Mark 1 could also go here
01:06though um only 303 were actually built um it was basically a two pounder gun in the turret and a
01:13three inch howitzer or 60 um 76 millimeter howitzer in the hull um there was a coaxial
01:20machine gun as well um same armor as the normal Churchill Mark 1 16 to 102 millimeters um
01:27only about 15 miles an hour um like I said not many were built they weren't particularly great
01:33they weren't used that often um so I'd put that as first um like I said it could go in either
01:38the infantry tanks or tank destroyer assault gun line um the next one is actually the Churchill
01:44Mark 2 close support now in this one it's weird they've put the two pounder gun in the hull and
01:51then the howitzer in the turret um again only a few were actually built um and as far as I'm
01:56aware they were never used in combat um I've put that a bit higher but not in tier three they're
02:00both tier two um but basically because obviously with the howitzer being I assume the main weapon
02:08it's probably going to be better in the turret so that probably means it should be above the
02:1476 millimeter howitzer in the hull version of the Churchill um again not sure how useful they'll
02:21actually be they've got heavy armor but hopefully that and the big gun will be quite um short ranged
02:28but hopefully the armor will allow it to get in close and do some damage um now I come to think
02:33of it it's probably going to be basically a British version of the grant tank with the
02:36howitzer in the being the main weapon but with the two pounder also being able to provide you
02:42know additional firepower so hopefully it'll be a good tank to have in the game
02:46now the next um tank destroyer the archer is um quite unusual in that the gun is actually pointed
02:52backwards um allowing you to do ambushes and still be pointing the right way to make a quick retreat
03:00um now the armor is 14 to 60 millimeters which is okay I don't know I don't know how that works um
03:07I don't know if the frontal arm is counted as like where the gun's pointing backwards or if it
03:12counts as the front where the gun's like the rear of the gun I'm not sure how that works actually
03:18um I'll have to look at look that up a bit if I can um it was armed with the 17 pounder um
03:24so already quite a powerful gun and it had a secondary armament of a Bren machine gun
03:30um it could do speeds of about um 20 miles an hour on on road it doesn't say what it is cross
03:36country um I think this would be quite a good tank to have because uh well one because of its
03:41unusualness um you know being pointed backwards um which is something we don't have in the game
03:47at the moment um two it gives Britain another tank destroyer because there aren't really many
03:52here on the list and yeah I think it'd be quite a good um addition for the British tank tank
03:58destroyer line um I'll put it tier three because it's got that 17 pounder gun but um
04:04where in tier three it would go because um I don't know um it'd be would be good as quite good
04:09as a ambusher like I said because of the gun I think it'd be quite a good unusual tank to have
04:14in the game now the next tank is probably one of the most iconic tanks on the um that Britain used
04:21in um world war ii which is odd because it was actually a Sherman tank with a 17 pounder gun in
04:26it um of course I'm talking about the Sherman Firefly other attempts have been made to get 17
04:32pounder guns into um other British tanks such as their challenger but the Sherman was the first
04:38one they managed to get a successful fighting vehicle out out of the conversion efforts um
04:45unfortunately most of my books don't particularly list the Sherman Firefly in them for some reason
04:50I don't know why um but I'm assuming it's going to be quite similar to the Sherman the normal
04:55Sherman that we've um got in game already so I'm guessing the speed to be the same as the
05:00normal Sherman uh 29 miles per hour maximum road speed there was a bit of confusion with the armor
05:06last time but I've got listed here in my book between 15 and 76 millimeters from the normal
05:11Sherman um like I said there was a bit of confusion with the Sherman in game I'll have to
05:16check what the armor is there but um obviously we need this tank in the game because it's like I
05:21said it's one of the most iconic tanks Britain used even though it was technically an American
05:26tank with a British gun um it did it did very well it would provide Britain with some extra
05:32firepower in the upper tiers I've put it about low tier 4 high tier 3 somewhere like that and
05:38generally it'll just be a good good um tank to have in the game um plus it's a Sherman so we've
05:43already got Sherman so I doubt it'll be very hard to redo the designs and add all the relevant stats
05:50and all that so yeah I think it'd be a good tank to have in the game now the next two tanks I wasn't
05:55sure how to do um the charioteer tank destroyer and the tortoise um the tortoise has a bigger gun
06:02uh I think it's something like 94 millimeters um yeah 94 millimeter gun and the charioteer has a
06:0920 pounder gun um I wasn't actually sure which was more powerful I've done a bit of research and
06:16apparently the 20 pounder gun was slightly better so I'm putting the tortoise first with the 32
06:22pounder gun um so but it could be moved about if needed um I also wasn't sure whether to have the
06:28tortoise as a um premium or not because only six were built but I've put it here just for the moment
06:33to pad out the tank destroyer line a little bit obviously it can be moved if needed um basically
06:39the um a39 um tortoise um had like I said 94 millimeter gun and it had three 7.92 millimeter
06:47machine guns now the armor was extremely thick 178 to 228 millimeters um and 33 millimeters on
06:57the top so even there it's quite heavily armored unfortunately only 12 miles per hour on road
07:04and four miles per hour off-road um probably just in the trailer it was carried on it is a
07:09very big tank um but like I said these were only six were made um they were kind of made obsolete
07:17by advances in gun technology and guided missiles and all that but I think it would be a very good
07:22tank to have in the higher tiers one because it's unusual and two it would be it's just such a big
07:29tank it's I think it would be good for the British to have in the higher tiers where um they haven't
07:33got that many tanks in the high tier at the moment um centurions carnivores and maybe the conqueror
07:39so hopefully this would help pad out tier five a little bit and I think it would be a good tank to
07:43have in the game now the next tank we're looking at is the charioteer tank destroyer with a it's
07:48basically a Cromwell tank with a 20 pound or 84 millimeter gun in it um now again my books don't
07:55have much information on it unfortunately um I assume it's going to have similar armor to the
07:59Cromwell um 76 millimeters um and about speed of 40 miles per hour so assuming it's going to be
08:08you know quite similar to the Cromwell in that respect um like I said it's basically a Cromwell
08:13with a bigger gun apparently the 20 pounder was better than the 32 pounder um again I'm not a
08:19massive gun expert and it was you know it was hard to find information but I've heard it could
08:23penetrate up to something like 210 millimeters of armor so that would be quite powerful at the
08:29higher tiers hopefully um and again I think it would be a good addition for Britain to have um
08:34might be a bit like the armored for the higher tiers but quite fast um good gun I think it would
08:40generally be a good tank to have in the game now um that was actually quite a bit shorter than
08:45usual that episode only about 10 minutes I think this whole episode will be um in the end um like
08:51I said that well there isn't that many tank destroyers or assault guns and like I said some
08:55of these probably aren't meant to be in the tank destroyer line like the Sherman Firefly and
08:59Tortoise could be a premium possibly but um I think they'd all be good additions for the game
09:04um like I said not many tank destroyers for Britain so the more they can get the better
09:10um next episode I'll deal with the self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and then I'll do the premiums
09:15and that'll be all of the British done um I'll probably do the um Japanese after that um then
09:21the Italians and the French um but anyway um thank you for watching hope you enjoyed the video uh
09:26leave a like if you liked it subscribe if you like these sorts of videos leave feedback and
09:30comments could always do with feedback um thank you for watching and I'll see you next time
