00:00Sometimes life is as much about the lessons you learn as the lessons you teach.
00:05When I grew up, community was a way of life.
00:08My high school class was 24 people.
00:11I was related to half of them.
00:13I learned to be generous towards my neighbors,
00:15compromise without compromising my values,
00:18and work for the common good.
00:20My dad was in the Army, and with his encouragement,
00:22I joined the Army National Guard when I was 17.
00:25I served for 24 years.
00:27I used my GI benefits to go to college and become a public school teacher.
00:32I coached football and taught social studies for 20 years.
00:35And I tried to teach my students what small-town Nebraska taught me.
00:38Respect, compromise, service to country.
00:41And so when I went into government, that's what I carried with me.
00:44I worked with Republicans to pass an infrastructure bill,
00:47cut taxes for working families, signed paid leave into law.
00:51I codified abortion rights after Roe got overturned.
00:54Because I go to work for the common good.
00:56But enough about me. Let's talk about you.
00:59Because that's what this election is about.
01:01It's about your future. It's about your family.
01:04And Vice President Harris knows that.
01:06She, too, grew up in a middle-class family.
01:08She, too, goes to work every day making sure families
01:11cannot just get by, but get ahead.
01:14We believe in the promise of America,
01:16in those values I learned in Nebraska,
01:18and we're ready to fight for them.
01:20Because as Kamala Harris says, when we fight, we win.
