00:00Fans are streaming in to go watch the volleyball, and we're going to turn our focus to another
00:05competition, the art of Olympic pin trading.
00:09And so we're joined by Marion Laurie, who is a pin collector herself.
00:13So tell us about some of your pins.
00:15Well, you know, I've started getting my collection back at the village.
00:20So I'll give you just an example of a few I have.
00:23I have the Polish one.
00:25I have the French one, pretty basic, but it was given to me by one of the handball
00:29players.
00:30So it's a pretty cool story.
00:31You have Costa Rica, Hungary, Brazil, and Argentina.
00:37For me, Argentina, it was my first pin, you know, that got me introduced to the pin collection.
00:43OK.
00:44And when did pins trading start, and when did it really take off?
00:48Well, it basically started back in the modern era of the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.
00:54And then it started being a big trend in the 80s when people started exchanging them.
00:59And now it's a huge trend.
01:01Maybe the biggest athletes trade their pins.
01:05Even Simon Biles has her own made pins, and it's one of the hot pins to get.
01:11And what are some other coveted pins this Games that people want?
01:14I think the most coveted this year is the Snoop Dogg pins that it was given to Coco
01:19Goff, the U.S. tennis player.
01:21And I think it's got everyone talking.
01:23I think everyone wants to have it.
01:25Yeah.
01:26And so what is your favorite story behind a pin that you have?
01:31I think, I mean, I think one of my favorite pins, it has to be Costa Rica.
01:38Look at this cute little guy.
01:40It's a sloth that chose to, Costa Rica chose to represent the Olympic pin with a sloth.
01:46I think it's a surprise.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Really fitting for a very ambitious and driven athlete.
