The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Aug. 8 said the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is affecting Northern and Central Luzon and may continue to bring rains to these areas.

00:04The effects of the Havagat or Southwest Monsoon continues here in a large part of the Northern and Central Luzon
00:10and the western sections will still be the most affected.
00:13Meanwhile, Southern Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao
00:17are still expected to be hit by localised thunderstorms or rains that do not last long.
00:23Meanwhile, the typhoon we are monitoring outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility
00:28from a tropical depression has increased to a tropical storm
00:32and has an international name, Maria.
