00:00John Woodward is at the courthouse to bring us the latest on this investigation. John.
00:06Natalie, we're still waiting for that court appearance here at Newmarket Courthouse.
00:12It's expected to appear currently on a three-day detention hold and this bail hearing now would allow the court to authorize further detention.
00:21Let's show you that video of that.
00:24You can see the big van connected to the RCMP unit back up on that Scarborough Street and out of its stream is a tactical unit with guns drawn.
00:35One of two sites where officers swooped in on Sunday night.
00:38The other, a Richmond Hill Hotel, all to stop what they believe was the advanced stages of planning a terrorist attack in service of the listed terrorist group ISIS.
00:4862-year-old Ahmed El-Didi and 26-year-old Mostafa El-Didi are charged with a number of offenses including having a machete and an axe.
00:58Experts say this may not have been an attack with a firearm but the potential for damage was there.
01:04Very concerning what you're seeing in the news about they were planning an attack with knives and edge weapons and that it was an ISIS-inspired in some way.
01:14That could have been a grave and serious attack.
01:18The unfortunate thing is when it comes to organizations like ISIS they'll use anything they possibly can to inspire other people to continue to be involved in this type of activity which is sad in and of itself.
01:29But at the same time it's good to see that the Canadian intelligence organization and the Canadian National Police are on top of this.
01:38We caught up with some of the neighbors at the Scarborough home that they lived at.
01:42They said they lived there for about a year and a half and also in that family was a wife and another son in his 20s.
01:50The authorities said both the father and son were Canadian citizens which has surprised some given that among the charges is an allegation against Ahmed El-Didi of an aggravated assault in 2015 outside of Canada.
02:04The question is how he then returned and possibly gained Canadian citizenship at that point.
02:10The court may hold some of those answers and we will be watching for that appearance expected early this afternoon.
02:16Reporting live from Newmarket I'm John Woodward back to you.
02:19Thank you John.
