00:00We are nearing the home stretch of a long marathon that is 162 games in an MLB regular season.
00:10So let's update the postseason picture in both leagues.
00:14We start with the AL. Here's the numbers right now.
00:18In the expanded postseason, seeds 1 through 6.
00:22The Orioles and the Yankees.
00:24The O's a slight advantage despite having the same record as the Yanks based on the tiebreaker for that American League East divisional top spot.
00:33So the Orioles have the best record in the AL technically and in the American League East.
00:39A half game in front of the Guardians who have a substantial lead in the American League Central.
00:43The Astros and the Mariners continue to flip-flop for the top spot in the AL West.
00:48The Astros have a half game lead at this moment.
00:51The three wildcard teams currently DRS in the American League.
00:54The Yankees, Twins, Royals.
00:57That is the picture as of right now.
01:01Yes, and we're also taking a look. Let's go over the overall standings in the American League, right?
01:05Just to take a look at how these teams' records and how they line up.
01:08It's no surprise, once again, two best teams in the American League just by record-wise, Ben.
01:12That's the Orioles and the Yankees.
01:14They're going to come down the stretch, jockey for position.
01:16A major advantage to the team that's going to win the AL East.
01:20But outside of that, the one team, again, we've sent out tweets here on the Sports Grid Network,
01:25which clearly says to me, look, the Orioles and the Yankees, two best teams in the American League bar none.
01:30And I think it's holding up now because you're looking at the Guardians.
01:33And there's no shame in the Guardians game.
01:35Just a few days ago, they were looking at the best record overall in Major League Baseball,
01:39but now losers of five straight games.
01:41I understand the ebbs and flows of the Major League Baseball schedule.
01:44The Phillies were going through it, and it looks like they're starting to pull themselves out.
01:47The Guardians are right in the middle of it with a five-game loss.
01:50This is why I look towards the late games in the season and also, obviously,
01:54the first couple weeks of October trying to advance in the playoffs.
01:57I just don't know if the Guardians have enough firepower here from a pitching perspective
02:01and a hitting perspective to get over the hump.
02:03And what I mean by the hump is taking down the Orioles and the Yankees,
02:06who are stacked from a frontline starting staff, hopefully if they're healthy,
02:09from a bullpen perspective, and the 1-9 lineup each and every day.
02:13Twins, Royals, Red Sox, Astros, yeah, all good stories.
02:16We'll talk about them making the playoffs.
02:17But for my money, once again, in the American League, it's the Orioles and the Yankees,
02:21and it's everybody else and the Guardians making me look technically smart about that right now,
02:26losing five straight games.
