00:00The 6th match, G1 Climax, A Block, 30 minutes, one match.
00:31And it is Callum Newman who stands at the forefront of that empire in the Block A department for the time being.
00:39It is Callum Newman who currently sits at 4 points.
00:42Can we talk about it right now, Chris?
00:44The absolute growth Callum Newman has had over the course of this tournament.
00:49You said it yourself, you didn't think this was one for Newman to just come in and sweep the entirety of Block A.
00:54And we haven't seen that.
00:56And we have seen incredible strides out of Newman.
00:58Victories over Shoto Umeda with a veteran like Shigo Takagi.
01:09Tremendous growth for Callum Newman as an athlete in general, having to wrestle this grueling tour in the summer.
01:17He, as a professional wrestler, as a human being as well, all in the span of a month.
01:24It's interesting how that journey started with this man.
01:28Like at Dominion on June 9th, we just thought, well, a little bit of an exhibition match for Callum Newman and Tetsuya Naito.
01:35I think it was the pace, pardon the pun, the fight that Newman brought,
01:41that's what allowed New Japan Pro Wrestling matchmakers to put Callum Newman in that qualifying tournament in the first place.
01:48And now he's in a position to show his growth to the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
01:55There's a potential level of skipping the line for Callum Newman here tonight.
02:03Eliminated mathematically in Block A by his own United Empire partner, Ingrid Okon.
02:10Hey Chris, we talk about it with every single champion.
02:14If Callum Newman can pick him a singles victory here tonight over the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Tetsuya Naito,
02:22and make it definitive at that, Callum Newman could earn himself a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight title
02:29if there were to be a defense sometime between now and the main event at the Tokyo Dome.
02:33It sounds on paper incredibly improbable.
02:37And optimistic, sure.
02:39Anybody has a punches chance, so to speak.
02:43Of course, Tetsuya Naito, though, a great flow of momentum in this town of Yokohama,
02:48has not lost a singles match in this city since 2014.
02:53That being Takao Anderson and Naito Albright in the 2014 G1.
02:58And hey, Callum Newman cutting up the jump early in on Tetsuya Naito here tonight.
03:18Exactly what he did in Osaka.
03:21And history very well could repeat itself, but you have to avoid it here.
03:26Naito out of the way.
03:28Newman wanted that moonsault right off the middle and is going to eat something much.
03:32Oh.
03:35Hey, there you go.
03:36This is the fight Newman wanted.
03:41And dropkick.
03:42Wow.
03:43Sends a suited up Naito right into the barricades.
03:47The only singles meeting between these two before did happen back a little over a month ago, two months ago.
03:54Osaka, Joe Hall, Naito, a victory over Callum Newman.
03:57Eight minutes, eight seconds.
04:00And we do have a 30-minute time limit here tonight.
04:02It's our first block A match of the evening.
04:04If you're joining us for the very first time, as the bell sounds, hold on a minute.
04:07Newman off the middle, wants that Oscar and jumped right over the top.
04:13Another man that knows the Oscar set very, very well.
04:17I do keep on saying it.
04:19I know Callum Newman can hit that very effectively.
04:22Even Shingo Takagi himself said that Callum's Oscar was more powerful, he felt, than Will Ospreay's.
04:29But feast or famine and you never turn your back on Tetsuya Naito.
04:36I think there's something to be said.
04:37Remember back at our first main event in Osaka, Tetsuya Naito took on Shingo Takagi.
04:42Shingo Takagi walked away with the victory.
04:45Shingo Takagi faces Callum Newman.
04:47Callum Newman walks away with the victory.
04:49Is there something to tie that together?
04:51Sure. I mean, if you're sitting there with your MMA math, then you would say, well, yeah, sure.
04:54That means Callum Newman can beat Tetsuya Naito.
05:00I know a lot of people want to claim that the jury is in on Callum Newman.
05:04I absolutely have to disagree with that point.
05:06Callum Newman has been improving beyond a shadow of a doubt.
05:10There's a reason that Tetsuya Naito had shirt off here tonight, Chris.
05:13There is a reason.
05:18As Naito.
05:21Going to hold it in here, brought down with the neck breaker is Newman.
05:29Naito looking to open the eye of Callum Newman.
05:31Into the cover.
05:32Wake up, kid.
05:33Got out at one.
05:47When you're eliminated early on in block A and block B competition,
05:50like El Phantasmo, Bolton Oleg, and the aforementioned Prince of Pace,
05:54you're not playing for anything more than pride.
05:57And there's a lot of pride on the line here tonight for Newman against Naito.
06:01I think quite often we see guys more effective, especially younger guys.
06:06I think especially for someone like Callum Newman,
06:08actually more effective after they're eliminated in the tournament
06:12because the pressure's off, you know,
06:14and it's just more about what can I do to set myself up for destruction
06:19coming up, for King of Pro Wrestling coming up,
06:21for our international events and for Wrestle Kingdom.
06:23Newman shot right through the spine of Naito.
06:26So having that blue sky in front of him, you know,
06:29it's almost like a massive load off your back.
06:33Sometimes you see that in other worlds of pro sports once you're not in that
06:37battle for relegation or promotion anymore.
06:41It's a load off these athletes.
06:43And that's a load that's very, very heavy on the mind of Tetsuya Naito.
06:50It's like spring training right now for Callum Newman in the baseball sense
06:55as Newman wants to bring through.
06:58Kick to Naito, up in to the moonsault.
07:01Caught out, into the cover, hook to the leg, this could be it.
07:03It's two.
07:09We talk so often about the people, the way that the people,
07:13the fans at ringside at New Japan Pro Wrestling can influence our athletes.
07:17Do you think Newman's one of those people that is influenced by an audience?
07:21I think potentially, I think that's something where he's still on the ground
07:26floor of that, making that connection.
07:28Obviously a connection Naito has built up very, very well.
07:31That's why making all these towns, like he does, being such a hard worker,
07:36was offered time off after this tour.
07:38No, he's going to stay in Japan for as long as possible,
07:41make all of these towns.
07:44It's an influence that Newman's own mentor in Will Ospreay had to build up
07:47from the ground floor as well.
07:49Certainly, Will Ospreay's not someone to veer away from the grind.
07:53And Newman not going to be the same either,
07:55but it is going to be a war grinding down at Tetsuya Naito.
07:59As ground down as Naito may be perceived,
08:02it is Naito who stands atop Newman right now.
08:05And from the top, takes down Newman.
08:07And Newman ineffected.
08:10Just about rotated enough to get onto his feet.
08:14Got him with the thrust kick.
08:16Roundhouse to the side, has the champion down.
08:18Cover on the world heavyweight champ.
08:21Oh, no.
08:28So, Callum's lower back is screaming at him now, the adrenaline.
08:32That's why he wants the crowd on side to keep that adrenaline flowing.
08:36We said these people are influential.
08:38There's no doubt about it.
08:39It's why you buy your ticket to sit front row.
08:43And you're going to influence the direction of Callum Newman here tonight.
08:46Shot right into the corner.
08:49And we saw this against Umino opening night.
08:52Led to a victory.
08:57Spine on the pine, double A style from Naito.
09:01Bringing it up.
09:02Wanted Destino, Destino, Destino.
09:05Has not been as effective in this tournament.
09:08Umin was hit with Destino in Osaka.
09:11Knows how to avoid it now.
09:13He's felt the brunt.
09:14It's all about the learning.
09:19And watch out, watch out.
09:22No.
09:23Got the knee.
09:24Oh, what a knee.
09:25Wow.
09:27Kenta Sato had to check.
09:29He's knocked out his feet.
09:30Wait, wait, wait.
09:31You don't think.
09:32Oh.
09:33Naito.
09:34Destino.
09:37Corriendo style.
09:38Got him.
09:40Wow.
09:41Wow.
09:45Chris, that is a resilience that we do not see
09:48out of every single member of this roster.
09:50No, but this time he won't withstand it
09:52if he can bring up the arm.
09:54Full version.
09:55Destino.
09:57Spiked in on the end.
09:59It's a cover.
10:00It's a win for the world heavyweight champion.
10:03What a fight from Newman.
10:12A big victory for the IWGP world heavyweight champion
10:16here tonight.
10:18Who now sits in at 10 points on the board.
10:21Chris Charlton sitting to my left.
10:23Doing a lot of math.
10:24But there's a lot of math to be done.
10:26But for the time being, let's talk about the fight.
10:28The fight that Callum Newman gave of his life
10:31and his back-to-back losses for Newman in this tournament.
10:35For Newman against Tetsuya Naito.
10:38You cannot say this man has not grown and developed
10:41leaps and bounds since this tournament had begun.
10:45Was it 16, 17, 18 days ago?
10:49Incredible strides by Callum Newman.
10:51And in the meantime, that win.
10:53Moving Tetsuya Naito to 10 points.
10:56Right now sitting level with Zack Sabre Jr. in EVIL.
11:01Now, Naito, I think,
11:03is going to be hoping for a Sonata loss
11:05coming up later on tonight.
11:07That doesn't necessarily affect Naito,
11:09but it does mean that if Sonata loses,
11:11Naito will be in charge of his own destiny
11:14coming up into that last-league match.
11:16He has Great-O-Khan Lars at 10.
11:20If it's just Zack EVIL and Naito at 10
11:22by the end of the night,
11:23Naito can get to 12,
11:25and that will cement him.
11:26He'll be going to the next round.
11:28He'll be going to the next round.
11:30He'll get to 12, and that will cement him.
11:33He'll be good to go from there.
11:38So certainly, Naito very close
11:40to be able to control his destiny.
11:43His destino, if you will,
11:46heading into the last block night.
11:55To seize your kingdom and build your dynasty,
11:58Tetsuya Naito will have to continue
12:00the run that he has been on thus far.
12:19It's a difficult thing for us as a competitor
12:21to know that you only have so much control
12:24over things at this point in the standing
12:26to know, hey, I may have gotten a result
12:29on the board here tonight,
12:30but a previous loss means I'm going to have
12:32to hope for, well, they'll wish it's on
12:35some of my other block A competitors.
12:41But it is just the nature of the beast,
12:43and speaking of beasts,
12:44it will be a battle of them coming up.
12:46Tetsuya Naito takes on Great-O-Khan.
12:48Goki Gore, Great-O-Khan is going on a roll.
12:51We're going to see if that roll runs on
12:53coming up against Naito on August 12th.
12:55Yeah, for sure.
12:56The one thing that Naito can do is win,
12:59and if he can beat Great-O-Khan,
13:01that's a huge, huge step towards the playoffs.
