00:00The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is now in full swing and over the next few weeks some three and a half
00:06Thousand performers from some 60 countries will be showcasing what's billed as the world's greatest
00:12celebration of the arts and culture
00:18Artists range from the complete unknown to establish stars featuring music theater comedy and dance
00:25Now for the first time in three years
00:27The China Culture and Arts Festival is back in town with the former Lord Provost or Lord Mayor of Edinburgh
00:35Introducing the show. So the Chinese Scottish link is is very important. It's
00:40In many ways more important than it's ever been. We have a great Chinese community in Edinburgh
00:46And but also the festivals are a platform for showing the best in all cultures. So it's an opportunity
00:54To both educate and entertain
00:59This year the event has been renamed the China Britain Arts and Culture Festival
01:05Featuring performers from the Shanghai you go arts troupe offering a mix of traditional dances and unique
01:12musical instruments
01:17The bamboo flute is another traditional instrument
01:20I have never played in my instruments outside China and I felt very excited and magic
01:27I want to introduce Chinese music to everyone
01:36Then in a break with tradition the bamboo flute quartet played a
01:41Rearranged version of the theme from the West End musical the Phantom of the Opera
01:51It's nice to coming back for the young artists to come back to Edinburgh French Festival

02:18By students from the Gordon dance school showcasing traditional Highland Scottish dances

02:28It's nice how we put the different styles together and like show that there's like a difference in Chinese and Highland dancing
02:39These China Britain cultural links are not limited just to the fringe festival with plans for year-round
