00:05The Emmy-nominated actress, who has gone on to star in hit projects including the Scream franchise,
00:10You, Wednesday, and the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, recently told Vanity Fair in a wide-ranging
00:16interview that it was 2004's Man on Fire that changed the entire course of my existence.
00:21The thriller, starring Washington and Dakota Fanning, follows a former CIA operative who
00:26sets out on a revenge-fueled rescue mission after a 9-year-old girl he was hired to protect
00:31gets kidnapped. Ortega tells Vanity Fair that after watching Fanning's performance as a child,
00:36she instantly knew what career path she wanted to take, and it was the one headed straight to
00:41Hollywood. She also added,
00:43I'm so appreciative of my six-year-old self, who wanted to be a president and an astronaut,
00:47because I realize now that I was always looking for a way out.
00:50Soon after realizing her dream of acting, her mother posted a video of her performing a dramatic
00:55monologue on Facebook. A family friend passed it on to a casting director, and she was finally
01:00being driven by her mom to LA for auditions. However, it's only recently that Ortega has
01:05started to accept that her life is forever changed, and will most likely keep changing.
01:09There's so much about the pressure that is put on this line of work that I do,
01:13that it's laughable, and it's beautiful, and it's awful.
