Rugby league fans urged to exercise caution tonight amid Parramatta light rail testing

Rugby league fans in Sydney are being warned to exercise extra caution when heading to tonight's Eels versus Panthers game as transport authorities test Parramatta's new light rail system.

00:06Many may be familiar with this area as a pedestrian space, but as you can see behind me, that's
00:11about to change with testing being done on the planned L4 line that connects Westmead
00:16and Carlingford with the Parramatta CBD.
00:19Around 18,000 fans are expected for tonight's game, many of whom will be Parramatta residents
00:24familiar with some of the testing that's taken place over the last few months, although many
00:28of the Panthers fans are being warned to be careful as they walk through tram lines.
00:33The testing is being done today on purpose.
00:36Transport authorities want to trial this system in crowded conditions.
00:40The new line is part of these significant upgrades happening to Western Sydney's public
00:45transportation network.
00:48Transport for New South Wales coordinator Howard Collins, he led those warnings yesterday
00:52asking travellers to stop, look up and listen when crossing tram lines.
00:58Transport has previously highlighted some risky behaviours and near misses, so they're
01:02asking drivers to not drive on tram lines and not queue on them.
01:05Also, pedestrians being asked to only cross at dedicated crossings.
