Robot dogs headed for Ukrainian frontlines could 'save lives'

Stealthy and agile, robot dogs could soon become an invaluable ally on Ukrainian’s frontlines by relieving soldiers of perilous missions, ranging from inspecting Russian trenches to detecting mines. 'The systems can save lives and are significant for modern warfare and our tactics in the future,' says Yuri, a Brit Alliance Dog operator.

00:29mean a $500 FPV can take out a $1,000,000 tank in one day, a dog which costs a couple
00:37of thousands can take over tasks where you have otherwise deployed a lot of technic communication
00:46systems and at least three to five soldiers.
00:52So the systems can save lives and are significant for modern warfare and our tactics in the
01:00future.
01:11So this dog, Bat 1, is not the version what is already deployed with our forces.
01:19We deployed the Bat 2, the advanced version, which has significant increased capabilities,
01:27a much more developed AI, as well as able to perform much better in urban environments.
01:35Even something was laying on the ground, let's call it a dog, now there is no problem anymore.
01:43It can work backwards, forwards, sideways.
01:49Especially in this warfare, where you have a lot of drones in use and can't send people
01:55in, you can bring with the dog, especially in urban environment, because of the speed.
02:01So when you want to position the dog on an overwatch position, you can walk him up, he
02:09has no problem to climb high ground.
02:13So these ground conditions are normally not the best for operation with robotics, but
02:21the new systems are capable of working in different environments.
02:28When it falls down, this dog is not standing up by him own.
02:34It's also not developed for surveillance operations or operations for special purposes, as I say.
02:43The dog, what we deployed, this we can expose or have a function that he understands where
02:50he is.
02:51So that means even when he falls, he understands how to turn automatically.
02:56So the operator doesn't have to push any buttons anymore.
03:01What you have here with this dog, you still have to push buttons that the dog is standing
03:06up.
03:07So the Bat 2 dog has a swarm capability.
03:10So you can deploy up to five dogs who walk and patrol autonomous or controlled and secure
03:19a whole area on the front line in urban environment or fields, especially in urban environments,
03:26to be honest.
03:27We start working to explore the trench, see where booby traps are, especially with the
03:43server imaging in the radar systems, to see if there are explosives in the trench or any
03:52threats for the assault unit.
03:55The reason why we train at the moment soldiers on the system and deployed in Ukraine is to
04:02increase the safety of soldiers in operation, to save lives.
