00:00Hi kids! Today we will learn about singular and plural naming words or nouns. So let's
00:12start. We will first learn about singular naming words or singular nouns. Singular
00:24nouns. Those nouns or naming words that denote a single entity, whether it is a single thing,
00:34person, place, or anything that is one in number. Plural nouns. Those nouns or naming
00:48words that denote more than one of a kind, it can be more than one person's, animals,
00:56places, or things. We mostly add S to a noun to make it plural, like fan, fans, car, cars,
01:15shoe, shoes, horse, horses, cat, cats. Here the words to which we have added S have become
01:31plural nouns, that is, more than one of a kind. And in some words we add ES, like wish, wishes,
01:45bus, buses, loss, losses, bunch, bunches, ostrich, ostriches, box, boxes, dress, dresses.
02:11Here we have a rule. Nouns that end in a hissing sound of CH, S, SS, SH, or X are changed
02:25to plural by adding ES to the singular. Let's see some examples. Bench, benches, glass, glasses,
02:41gas, gases, brush, brushes, fox, foxes. We have added ES to make the words plural. Tomato, tomatoes,
03:01tomatoes, cargo, cargos, echo, echoes, flamingo, flamingos, mango, mangoes, torpedo, torpedoes.
03:21Kids, you can see that in all the words ending in O, we add ES to make their plurals. There are many more rules to make plurals.
03:36Now, we'll learn the next rule. When a naming word ends in the letter Y, we remove the letter Y and add IES to make it a plural.
03:52Let's see some examples. City, city is ending in the letter Y. Now what do we do? We will remove the letter Y and add IES, so it will become cities.
04:14Pony, it again ends in Y. Now what will you do to make it a plural word? Remove the letter Y and add IES, so it will become ponies.
04:34Reply, here too we have Y in the end. Now what we will do is remove the letter Y and add IES in the end to make it a plural, and it becomes replies.
04:54Berry, how will we do to make it a plural? We will remove the letter Y and add IES in the end, and it becomes berries.
05:10Lady, what will we do here? Here again, we will remove the letter Y and add IES in the end to make it a plural. It will become ladies.
05:27Baby, what will we do to make it a plural? We will remove the letter Y and add IES to make it a plural, so it will become babies.
05:44Next word is boy. It also has Y in the end. Will we remove Y and add IES to it to make it a plural? No, we will not remove Y, we will just add S to make it a plural naming word.
06:07Key, here we have another naming word ending in Y. Will we remove Y? No, we will not remove Y, we will just add S and it will become keys.
06:24So kids, sometimes we remove Y and add IES to make it a plural naming word. But in some words we do not remove Y, we just add S in the end to make it a plural naming word.
06:42Why so? Listen and remember, whenever Y comes after a consonant, which is a letter other than vowels, we will remove the letter Y and add IES to make it a plural naming word.
07:04But when Y comes after a vowel, that is either A, E, I, O, or U, we will not remove Y, we will just add S after Y to make it a plural naming word.
07:24Now, here we have another rule for making a plural naming word. When a naming word ends in F or FE, what we do is, we remove the F or FE and make it VES.
07:45Let's see some examples. Knife, this naming word ends in FE. We will remove FE and put VES and it becomes knives.
08:02Leaf, this naming word ends in F. Now what we will do here is remove F and put VES and it becomes leaves.
08:16Half, here again we have F in the end, so what we will do is, here again we have F in the end, so what we will do is remove F and add VES and it becomes halves.
08:42Wife, here again we have FE in the end, so what we do is remove FE and add VES in the end and it becomes wives.
08:58Life, here again we will remove FE and add VES in the end and it becomes lives.
09:09Hoof, what we do is remove F and add VES in the end. It becomes hooves.
09:22There are so many naming words, those completely change in the plural form. That is, we do not add or remove anything from the word. It completely changes in its plural form.
09:38Let's have some examples. Child is a singular naming word and the plural of child is children.
