00:00Hi kids, today we will learn about types of verbs, main verbs, helping verbs, and linking
00:09verbs.
00:10So let's start.
00:13We know that verbs are the words that describe what action or work is being done in the sentence.
00:22So verbs are the action words in a sentence.
00:27I go to play every day.
00:31So what action is being done in the sentence?
00:35Go and play.
00:37These are the action words or verbs.
00:42I sleep at 8 p.m. every day.
00:46What is the action word in this sentence?
00:49Sleep.
00:51Sleep is the action word in the sentence, so it's also a verb.
00:57We should wash our hands every time we eat something.
01:03Which are the action words in this sentence?
01:07They are wash and eat.
01:11These two words are action words or the verbs.
01:16Do not go outside.
01:20What is the action being talked about in the sentence?
01:25It is the action of going.
01:28So go is the verb.
01:33Come inside.
01:34It's too cold outside.
01:37Which word is the action word in this sentence?
01:41It is come.
01:43So come is the action word or the verb in the sentence.
01:50So go, play, sleep, wash, eat, go, and come are action words or verbs in the sentences
02:01we just read.
02:05So the primary function of verbs is to tell what action is being performed in a sentence.
02:13But there are some other types of verbs also, such as linking verbs and helping verbs.
02:21Let's first learn about linking verbs.
02:26Linking verbs are called so because they link the noun or pronoun in the sentence with their
02:34description.
02:35They do not tell anything about the action being performed in the sentence.
02:42She is a pretty girl.
02:45She is a pronoun.
02:48Is is a helping verb.
02:51A pretty girl is the description of the pronoun.
02:56So helping verb is is linking the pronoun to its description.
03:02Let's learn another example.
03:04He has a big car.
03:07Here he is a pronoun.
03:11Has is a helping verb.
03:13A big car is a description of the pronoun.
03:19The helping verb has is linking the pronoun he with its description.
03:26So kids, helping verbs link the noun or pronoun with its description.
03:33Let's have some more examples.
03:36He seems tired.
03:39The linking verb here is seems.
03:42It does not tell anything about any action.
03:47Kids, you can see that the verb seems links he and tired together.
03:55It provides information about he, that he looks tired.
04:01So seems here is a linking verb.
04:07Let's see another sentence.
04:10This sweater feels good.
04:12The linking verb in this sentence is feels as it links sweater and good together.
04:21Here is our next sentence.
04:23The teacher appeared angry.
04:27The linking verb here is appeared as it links teacher and angry together.
04:34So kids, we learned that linking verbs do not tell about any action, but they link the
04:42noun or the pronoun to its description.
04:46Kids, some helping verbs are also there, which help the main verbs in doing their job.
04:55We help our parents.
04:58Here help is the main verb.
05:01We should help our parents.
05:05Here should is a helping verb of the main verb help.
05:11I play football.
05:14Here play is the main verb in the sentence.
05:20I am playing football.
05:23Here am is the helping verb of the main verb playing.
05:29She writes very neatly.
05:32Here writes is the main verb.
05:36She is writing very neatly.
05:39Here is is the helping verb of the main verb writing.
05:46He kicks the ball very hard.
05:49Here kicks is the main verb of the sentence.
05:54He has kicked the ball very hard.
05:58Here has is the helping verb of the main verb kicks.
06:05They play in the ground.
06:08Here play is the main verb in the sentence.
06:14They are playing in the ground.

06:23They were going to watch a movie.
06:27Here going is the main verb in the sentence.
06:31And were is the helping verb of the main verb going.
06:36So friends, we have learned so many helping verbs.
06:41And the most common helping verbs are is, am, are, was, were, has, have, be, being,
06:56been, had, do, does, did, done, could, should, would, can, will, may, might, and so on.
07:16Helping verbs also describe whether the action is being performed or has been performed or
07:22is yet to be performed.
07:25That is, helping verbs help to form the tenses.
07:30In other words, helping verbs mainly tell whether the action is happening in the present,
07:37has already happened in the past, or will happen in the future.
07:43Finally, helping verbs also tell about the mood of the sentence.
07:49Let's revise.
07:52Main verbs describe an action.
07:55Linking verbs link the noun or pronoun to its description.
08:01And the helping verbs help the main verbs in their functions.
