00:00I'm here with councillor Kath Benson and Jed Sullivan from the Blackpool Boys
00:05and Girls Club and they're just going to talk to us about the project for a new
00:10youth hub here in Brunswick Ward in Blackpool.
00:14Hi Sheila, yeah we're just delighted to be here this morning to see the start of the new creation of our youth hub.
00:21This is part of Blackpool Council's drive to provide more youth services in Blackpool
00:27and £1.7 million investment in the youth investment zone in partnership with the Boys Club and Blackpool Council.
00:35Jed, do you want to say how, as one of the youth workers here, how this is going to improve this area?
00:41The Boys and Girls Club's been in Blackpool since 1935 and we've been in a variety of different places.
00:48This is just the latest place. I'm really delighted to have the first purpose-built youth centre in Blackpool
00:55for a very long time and it's what our young people deserve and it's what they've been crying out for.
01:01It's been a pleasure to work with the Youth Investment Fund and a pleasure to work with Blackpool Council
01:05and between the three of us we've been able to leverage in £1.7 million for this new build.
01:10We've had a load of young people down today looking at how the building's progressing
01:15and quite frankly if it was built tomorrow it wouldn't be quick enough because those kids can't wait to get in here
01:21and it's very much needed in this community.
01:23We've been working as a temporary building for I think maybe 12 years before this came along
01:28and we're just delighted to have got it over the line and to have this new provision
01:32which will be available seven days a week, morning, noon and night and we can't wait to get started.
01:38Right, that's great and we'll just take a look at the work that's going on at the moment.
