Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe Review By Promeet Ghosh.This model is the fourth under the C-cubed program, offering a coupe-styled alternative to the C3 Aircross SUV. The Basalt introduces features previously absent in Citroen models and will be available with two petrol engine options.The Basalt is powered by two 1.2-litre petrol engines. One is an 82hp, 115Nm naturally aspirated unit, while the other is a 110hp turbo-petrol engine. The turbo-petrol can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox (producing 190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic (generating 205Nm). The naturally aspirated engine comes with a 5-speed manual only.

00:00Welcome to DriveSpark, I am Pramit and today we have come to Goa where we are driving the all-new Citroen Basalt.
00:21This is the fifth car in the Citroen Indian Portfolio to be launched since 2021.
00:29So let's start the video and I will tell you what all you will get in this SUV Coupe.
00:42So let's start with the front end of the car and the first thing you will notice is the typical Citroen design that you have seen has been carried forward.
00:50You will get the Chevron logo in the center, you will get Piazza Black finishing, you will get a little chrome.
00:55You can see the DRL here, the indicator is present in halogen, apart from that, you get a bi-functional headlight unit, LED and high beam and low beam everything is in it.
01:05Apart from that, you can see here that you will also get a fog light and the Piano Black accents are seen all over the place, plus the matte black finishing.
01:13So the overall front end of the car looks very good, the skid plate at the bottom is finished in silver and Citroen says that this design of this car makes the car very aerodynamic.
01:23So this is basically its front end and the hood lines and creases are very few, it also makes the car a little sharp, so it looks very muscular from the front.
01:31Now let's go to its side, so first of all you will notice that in its side profile, you get 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels here, whose tire profile is 20560R16.
01:43Along with that, you can see that the body cladding is present all around the car and you get a flip door handle, an exposed keyhole, I don't know why in the top-end variant, it would have been better if it was covered, because you don't get keyless entry in this car.
01:55You get a blacked-out ORVM, you will get an indicator, you will not get any chrome on the side, on the top you get a black roof because this is the dual-tone version, you will also have the option of monotone.
02:06And here I think this red accent signifies that this is the turbo petrol variant, so I think this is the reason, it looks like a reflector from a distance, but it is not a reflector.
02:15And the special thing about this car is that it starts from here, this sloping roof line, that's why it has been named SUV Coupe, because you can see that its design is very unique.
02:25And if we talk about the taillights, there are wrap-around taillights that come up to here, and the body lines and creases are very subtle, which are a little ahead, and here in the middle you will not get much lines and creases, but you will get one more part of the cladding.
02:40And along with that, you can see here that you also get a shark fin antenna, so let's go to its rear section and I will tell you more about it.
02:47So now you will see the first thing in this rear section, you will get the logo of Citroen here, you will also get the written Citroen, you will get the year's badging here, and here you will also get a pure tech badging.
03:04Now this is its taillight, as I said earlier, it is a wrap-around taillight, it is a mix and match of LED and halogen, which looks very good.
03:11Along with that, you will get parking sensors, you will get this bumper in matte black, you will also get the silver color in front of it, and there is a camera in which you will get guidelines, but it is not adaptive, it is very clear, you will park it easily, there will be no problem.
03:26And to open the boot, you have been given a request here, so as soon as you open the boot, it is a very light boot, you can see that it will open easily, and this glass goes with the boot, so I was talking about the design of the SUV coupe, so basically the glass also opens, usually if it is a sedan car, then only this much boot will open, but in this the whole glass opens.
03:45Here you will get a boot space of 470 liters, and you can see that there is no split seat at the back, if you want more space, then you will have to fold down the whole second row, I don't know why they have given this option, but the boot space is quite decent, so you don't feel that you will need a second row, just in case, then you will have to fold down the whole row, so this basically sums up its rear end, now let's go inside the car and see what features you will get inside.
04:15So now I have come to the second row of the car, and here you can see, first of all let me tell you that this seat is adjusted according to my height, my height is 6'1 for reference, and if I sit straight like this, then you can see that I have a lot of legroom here, the headroom is also quite decent here, and if I talk about the under thigh support, you can see here that there is no under thigh support,
04:45but if you look here, which is also present in this seat, you will get 3 levels of under thigh support adjustment, which is level 1, 2, 3, and if you do it for the 4th time, then it will come back down, so basically tall people get less under thigh support, so what will happen here, if I pick it up like this, and it will lock like this, so now you can see that I can sit comfortably, I don't have much legroom, I can move it up more, but it will be too high for me,
05:15the side support is given in the headrest, it is not adjustable, but if you are sleeping in the car, then it is given so that your head does not fall out of the headrest, it is very comfortable and it is going to be a very good feature.
05:25Along with that, you will get an armrest, two cup holders, you will get a place to keep a phone here, along with that, you will get an AC vent here, I think this is a blower controller, as in to control the fan speed, and along with that, you will get two type A charging sockets here, there is nothing else here, you will get a magazine pocket and you will also get some storage space on the door, so this concludes its rear end, and let's move forward and tell you what you get in the future.
05:51So now we have come to the front seat of the car, and here you can see that its dashboard layout will look very similar to that of the C3 Aircross, you can see here that the AC vents are very unique, along with that, you will also get a textured design here, you will get a 10.25-inch infotainment system, in which you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless, along with that, you also get Citroen Connect, in which you can operate 40-plus connected car features in this car through your phone.
06:21If you come down, then you will get automatic climate control, here you can see a small screen in which you will see the display, type A 12-volt socket, and here you are given a 15-volt fast charging wireless, two cup holders, gear lever, here is a little storage space, here you can see the manual handbrake, and here you will get an armrest, which you will open, so you will get a little storage space, in which you can see a wallet, you can keep it near the wallet, you won't even get a half-liter bottle.
06:47Here is a little bit of silver finishing, where you can keep something, and this is its glove box, plus talking about the seats, the seats are going to be very comfortable, the driver's side gets a height adjuster, and here you can see that its headrest does not get the lateral support that you could see at the back, but obviously if you give it to the driver, the driver will sleep comfortably, along with that, talking about the steering wheel, it is a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering mounted controls are given on both sides in a very unique way,
07:17along with this, if you look at its display, it gets a 7-inch TFT display, in which you get a lot of options, and you can go to the menu and change it, you will get a lot of options, and along with this, you also get three different themes, so that thing is very good, in the steering wheel, you only get the tilt option, you won't get the telescopic option, these are your wiper stalks, and these are your headlight stalks,
07:44along with that, on the right side, you will get a power window lock button, an auto start-stop button, and obviously, you will also get the buttons to control the rear-view mirrors, so this basically concludes its interior, now let's go and drive this car, and let's tell you how the all-new Basalt is to drive.
08:00So, now we have arrived at the driving seat of the all-new Citroen Basalt, and before that, I would like to tell you about the engine specifications of this car, so in this car, you get two engine options, both are petrol, both are 1.2-litre engines, but one is naturally aspirated, and the other is turbocharged, now if we talk about the specifications, the naturally aspirated engine produces 82.5bhp,
08:30and 115Nm of peak torque, and that comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, you will get only one gear option with that variant, which is naturally aspirated, now if we talk about the turbo petrol variant, it is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, and in this engine, you will get two gearbox options, the first one is a 6-speed manual, and the second one is an AMT gearbox, that's a 6-speed AMT, so in both, you will get the same power, which is 110bhp,
08:59but there is a slight difference in torque, in manual, you get 190Nm, and in automatic, you get 205Nm of peak torque, so the variant we are driving today is the automatic variant, and if we talk about its power figures, it is 110PS and 205Nm of peak torque, which is quite decent on paper, and if we talk about its acceleration, it is initially quite linear, but the mid-range and top-end is quite decent,
09:29and you get triple-digit speeds easily, there is no problem with that, now we are driving the turbo petrol variant, which is naturally aspirated, we haven't driven it yet, so we won't talk about it, we will talk about it later, so if we talk about its steering wheel, so the steering wheel is slightly on the stiffer side, which I personally like, but a lot of people like a very light steering wheel, but it is stiff, it doesn't mean that you will have a problem in roaming in the city, or you will have a problem in manoeuvring in the city,
09:58this car is quite easily manoeuvrable, I mean it is a long car, but I mean, you won't have any problem, if you are standing in heavy traffic, stop and go traffic, or bumper to bumper traffic, now we will talk about the suspension of this car, so we will talk about the suspension, the thing that Ciptron has emphasized the most is on the suspension of this car, so the suspension offers you the best of both worlds, it also gives you handling, along with that, it is a comfort,
10:25Ciptron says that you are going to get the effect of a flying carpet in this, now obviously we are seeing that, we are gliding through the road, we are not driving very fast, but wherever there are bumps and potholes, this car is tackling them very well, there is no problem in it, I mean, we can feel it inside, but not so much that your ride will be very uncomfortable, this was its suspension setup,
10:49and if we talk about safety, then in safety, the first standard we get is 6 airbags, in this car you will get ABS, Hill Hold, ESP, so the car is also going to be very safe, so if you want a feature loaded car, it is also very feature loaded, as I have already told you, the shape and design of this car is also very good, along with that, you are going to get a lot of comfort, which is going to be very comfortable by combining both the suspension and seat,
11:17you can definitely see the Citroen Basal once, and if we talk about the mileage figures, we have not done the test yet, because this is the first drive, we are on the narrow roads of Goa, so we cannot do the mileage test here, but Citroen claims that the mileage of this Basal is going to be somewhere between 18-20, now the naturally aspirated engine will give around 18, and in the turbo petrol engine, the manual is around 19-19.5, and the automatic that we are driving is claiming 18-18.5,
11:47so that car will come to us later, we will see it and drive it, and we will let you know at that time.
