00:11We're talking about the Perseids.
00:13The Perseid meteor shower will peak on the night of Sunday, August 11th into Monday,
00:17August 12th and boasts up to 100 meteors per hour.
00:22Since the peak shower falls on a cool summer night, it's easily one of the most popular
00:26meteor showers of the year.
00:28Although the moon is in its first quarter phase, which would normally compete for the
00:32night sky, the moon will set after midnight.
00:35The best time to view the Perseids is after midnight anyway.
00:39Wait until the moon sets below the horizon to increase your chances of seeing as many
00:43shooting stars as possible across the night sky.
00:46For the best results, find a dark area away from city lights, then let your eyes adjust
00:51to the dark for at least 30 minutes.
00:53If you must use light to see in the dark, use a red filtered light to protect your night
00:58vision.
00:59Most of all, before heading outside, check the latest cloud forecast for your area.
