00:18It's 2024, and with the Aventador's demise,
00:22Lamborghini needs a new flagship.
00:24This is the Lamborghini Rivalto, still with a V12,
00:27but this time, as a plug-in hybrid.
00:33As a track weapon, the Rivalto goes maximum attack.
00:37With 1,001 combined horsepower from its naturally aspirated
00:406.5 liter V12 and trio of electric motors,
00:44the car is superb.
00:46Our own Angus McKenzie said it was the best Lamborghini
00:49we've ever driven.
00:50And all that has to do with its searing performance,
00:53chassis composure, and how it inspires total confidence
00:56behind the wheel.
00:57Seeing as there is so much power on tap,
01:00it's important that the car is able to harness it well
01:02while still remaining engaging.
01:04But as much as we'd love to live our lives going 10 tenths
01:06on a track every day, that's no one's reality.
01:10So here today, on the street, we ask,
01:13does the new Rivalto still capture the magic
01:16of V12 Lamborghinis?
01:19First order of business, trying out that all electric mode.
01:23This is a thing that is new and interesting to me.
01:27We are in a Lamborghini and it's quiet.
01:31No, I'm not even gonna lie, this is my new favorite thing.
01:34If you're driving through a sleeping neighborhood,
01:37a city center, and you don't feel like being
01:39in the center of attention, I mean,
01:40as little a center of attention as a neon yellow Lamborghini
01:44could ever be, you can silence things.
01:48So it goes into like stealth mode, like Batman.
01:52I mean, it's not completely silent.
01:53You can still hear some supposedly piped in
01:58electronic tones.
02:00Obviously the acceleration isn't there
02:02and neither is the sound.
02:04And that for sure takes something out of it.
02:07But you still feel like you're in something special.
02:10But to ride around in a silent Lamborghini
02:15is a different thing.
02:17Hmm.
02:21That was the engine.
02:23There she is.
02:35This transmission doesn't have the violence
02:39of the old Aventador's transmission.
02:41It's a lot smoother, civilized, tamer.
02:46I miss that big kick, that mule kick
02:50that you get on the upshifts.
02:53But we all gotta modernize.
02:54We all gotta grow up sometime.
02:56And if that's the bit of brutality that we lose in 2024,
03:01I'm fine with it.
03:07That power delivery is so linear, by the way.
03:10That is the beauty of natural aspiration, it must be said.
03:14I mean, we're on public roads right now,
03:17so obviously we need to be safe and considerate.
03:22But even in this situation, which is the situation
03:24that most people will be driving their car in,
03:27there is enjoyment, there is drama,
03:30and that is what it is to drive a Lamborghini.
03:32You still get that engine that is ever-present.
03:36You never forget it's there.
03:39That's why Lamborghini's still making V12s.
03:41They know, they know people like this stuff.
03:43They know people love this stuff
03:44and will keep paying for it
03:45as long as they keep building it.
03:51We came out here to see if the old magic
03:55of a V12 Lamborghini still exists
03:59in this version of a V12 Lamborghini
04:01that has so much science behind it.
04:04The answer is, yeah, it does.
04:05It does, but that battery adds an extra dimension to it
04:10that previously wasn't there.
04:14There's that covert sense to it.
04:16Kind of makes the engine an elective,
04:18whereas before it was a constant.
04:22So in that regard, I think it feels refreshed,
04:26same as always, same brutality, savagery as always,
04:34but with added civility.
04:36We are well into the EV revolution,
04:38which means battery electric cars
04:40can easily, easily make over 1,000 horsepower.
04:43But if you've got an itch only a V12 can scratch,
04:47well then we salute Lamborghini
04:48for keeping on and fighting the good fight.
04:51The Rovato makes four digit horsepower,
04:53but it makes it with V12 and science.
04:56So if you're not quite ready
04:58to give up on internal combustion just yet,
