Thiam grateful for historic heptathlon gold

00:00Obviously I'm very proud, but it's also not the first thought that came to my mind,

00:07because that's the first question that I got in the interview,

00:10and for me it was more like, it was a lot of hard work and sacrifice and pain,

00:16a lot of months far from my family in South Africa.

00:20So it was more like feeling grateful that all that work paid off,

00:28because as I say in sport, you give everything you have,

00:32and no success is due or guaranteed to you.

00:36You must just give it all and take what the sport gives you back.

00:40Sometimes it's not so much, and I'm glad that today was that much for me.
