00:00Hi kids! Today we will learn about part of a sentence called object. So let's start.
00:11Sentence. You know, a sentence is a group of words that make some complete sense.
00:22The two main parts that constitute a sentence are subject and predicate.
00:31Subject can be a single word or a group of many words called a noun phrase.
00:40Predicate, too, can be a single word or a group of words known as verb phrase.
00:49Now, we are going to learn about objects.
00:56Objects is part of a verb phrase in a sentence and it can be a noun, pronoun, or a group of words that act as a noun in the verb phrase.
01:09And the action word or the verb in the sentence acts on that object.
01:19We will understand it with the help of examples.
01:24The first one is she read the book.
01:28She is the subject of the sentence.
01:33Read the book is the predicate of the sentence.
01:39In the predicate, read is the verb of the sentence.
01:45And book is the object, that is, the action read is being performed on the book.
01:54So, object is that word on which the action is being performed.
02:01Let's have a look at another example.
02:05The boys danced on the floor.
02:09In this sentence, the boys is the subject, danced on the floor is the predicate, danced is the verb, and floor is the object, as the action of dancing is being performed in the sentence.
02:28So, object is that word on which the action is being performed.
02:36The monkey ate many bananas.
02:41The monkey is the subject of the sentence.
02:46Ate many bananas is the predicate, and out of this predicate, ate is the verb, and as the action of eating is being performed on bananas,
03:01So, bananas is the object.
03:06So, we learned that every sentence has two main parts, subject and predicate.
03:13Subject is the doer of the action.
03:18Rest of the sentence is the predicate, and predicate consists of a verb, that is, the action word, and it may also contain the object on which the action is being performed.
03:35So, object is the one who performs the action.
03:41Verb is the word that expresses the action, and object receives the action, that is, the action is performed on the object.
03:53Objects are of two types, direct objects and indirect objects.
04:03The thing or the person that receives the action is called the direct object in the sentence.
04:12Ben is eating an ice cream.
04:16Here, Ben is the subject, eating is the verb, and ice cream is the direct object, as the action of eating is directly being performed on the ice cream.
04:33Next is the indirect object.
04:37The thing on which or the person on whom the action is performed is called the indirect object.
04:46Or, the indirect object is the recipient of the direct object.
04:53Or, the indirect object gets the direct object.
04:59Let's try to learn it with the help of some examples.
05:04He made his mother a beautiful card.
05:08He is the subject or the doer of the action.
05:14Made is the verb, that is, the action being performed in the sentence.
05:21Card is the object, that is, the action is directly being performed on the card.
05:29Mother is the indirect object, that is, the recipient of the direct object, card.
05:40They bought their mother a new car.
05:44They is the subject, that is, doer of the action.
05:50Brought is the verb, action being performed.
05:57Car is the object, that is, the action of buying is being performed on the car.
06:07Mother is the indirect object, that is, recipient of the direct object, car, is mother.
06:18Her friend purchased a book for her.
06:22Here, her friend is the subject, doer of the action.
06:28Purchased is the verb, or the action being performed.
06:34Book is the direct object, the action of purchasing is being performed on the book.
06:42And her is the indirect object, that is, the recipient of the direct object, book, is her.
06:55She passed salt to me.
06:58She is the subject, that is, the doer of the action.
07:04Passed is the verb, that is, the action being performed in the sentence.
07:11Salt is the direct object, the action is being performed on salt.
07:19Me is the indirect object, that is, salt is being passed to me.
07:28Or, the recipient of the direct object, salt, is me, so me is the indirect object.
07:40So kids, we learned objects and their various types.
07:44Now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
07:48Bye-bye.
