00:00A couple years ago, they still have high hopes for him, third and 12, Carr from the pocket,
00:05dumps it off, and a nice open field tackle by Owen Pappo on Williams. Pappo drafted out of
00:11Auburn last year in the fifth round, they really like him as a backup linebacker and on special
00:15teams. All right, this is what I love to see right here, Owen Pappo on the coverage, but look at the
00:19tackle, solid open field tackle, never a doubt, that's the way you want your backers to get out
00:27in space and make a play. You got Kyzier White, who was a captain a year ago, got injured week 11,
00:34but he and Mack Wilson Sr., those are your starters, but they're looking for that third
00:38inside backer, could it be Owen Pappo? Chris Barnes, a guy that's reliable as well, good on
00:43special teams. Dallas under it, and fields it at the eight-yard line, makes the first man miss and
00:53gets about six yards on the return. Cardinals offense, back on the field, and we come back.
00:59He is a true wide receiver one, Arvin Harrison Jr. And last year, Harrison had over 1,000 yards
01:08for the second straight year at Ohio State, won the Ballotnikoff award. Meanwhile, with Harrison
01:13likely done for the day, we'll turn our attention to the quarterbacks, no Kyler Murrays we touched
01:17on earlier, so Desmond Ritter gets the start, he'll play about a half, Clayton Toone will play
01:22about a half as well. Ritter going to hand it off here to Benson, and nice running room up
01:28to about the 20. It'll be interesting, Wolf, Ritter, I think automatically when the move was
01:35made, Cardinals drafted Clayton Toone, but obviously competition is good. Toone has grown, he's gotten
01:41a lot more command of the offense, playing faster. Ritter, his issue, Wolf, turnovers, that plagued
01:46him last year with the Falcons. Yeah, for me right now, Clayton Toone I think has actually had just
01:50slightly better training camp than Ritter. On second and three, play action for Ritter.
01:57He's a very good athlete, that pass though off target intended for Pascal,
02:02who laid McKinstry, rookie from Alabama, in coverage. Matt, you got to go back to that
02:07first down play right there when you had 13 personnel, one back, three tight ends, and you
02:12ripped the ball for seven or eight yards. That to me, David, that is what the Arizona Cardinals are
02:18going to be all about, and it was a tackle zone to the left, and Trey Benson with an excellent run
02:25on that play. Want to see more of that. Then you saw the misfire on second down, and
02:31now the Cardinals in third and three trying not to waste that nice first down run. Ritter steps up
02:39and dragged down at the line of scrimmage by Brian Brzee, first round pick a year ago out
02:45of Clemson by the Saints. There it is right there. The Saints, of course, just with a four-man rush
02:51in the pocket collapsing quickly with Ritter. That's not good. So far we've seen that pocket
02:57collapse rather quickly for the Arizona Cardinals. That can't happen. Ritter last year at a quarterback
03:08rating of 83.4, still on his rookie contract. Cardinals traded Rondale Moore to get Ritter
03:14and see if maybe a change of scenery would do him well. Good punt by Gilligan. Wilson asked
03:21to back up and field it on his 24 and lost his footing as he dives across the 30.
03:30We're in the Ford broadcast booth brought to you by our Arizona Ford dealers, Dave Pash,
03:34Ron Wolfley. This is the time of the year where social media goes wild because Ron Wolfley is
03:41reintroduced to the world. For those that don't listen to Cardinals broadcasts over the course of
03:46the regular season, they get to hear in Seawolf for a couple games here in preseason. Most people
03:50are like, who's that guy? Sounds like a professional wrestler. I have no idea what you're talking
03:57about, David. I'm going to ignore you and ignore it. Jake Hayner in the game at quarterback,
04:03like Derek Carr, played at Fresno State but a lot younger. Fourth round pick a year ago. I'm
04:07going to run the ball straight ahead. And that was Jamal Williams. Not much there. Maybe a yard.
04:13Man, did you see that right there? By the way, this is the second team offense. The
04:18Saints first team offense was out there the last couple of series. Cardinals defense did
04:22a terrific job. Hayner being chased, flagged down, probably holding.
04:26Hayner's pass incomplete. We'll see what the flag's about.
04:29I got to tell you right now, the Arizona Cardinals, at least defensively,
04:38they're out there scrapping. I love the fact Darius Robinson is still out on the field as well.
04:44Offense number 70. Ten-yard penalty. Defeat second down.
04:48It's on Trevor Penning. So the Saints actually have their starting offensive line still
04:53in the game. Most of them anyway. They do have some backup receivers in the back of quarterback.
04:57But again, this is by the number two Cardinal defense. And some third teamers are out there
05:03holding their own against many of the Saints starters.
05:06Man, I'm telling you, that is disconcerting if you're a Saints fan.
05:11Although again, how much are they really running in terms of their normal stuff?
05:15All I know is the guy's getting beat. Second and 19. Midway point of the first quarter.
05:22Hayner trying to set up a screen. Has to sidearm it. And great job by Keetrel Clark to come up and
05:27make the tackle. Boy, the Cardinals are coming off the ball while they're playing really fast.
05:32I mean, just what I was saying right there. You go ahead and take a look at Darius Robinson right
05:37here. Getting through and creating some havoc. Now I know it's part of the design of the play
05:43as well to allow him to get through. But man, the Arizona Cardinals are flying around. Red run, baby.
05:51Darius Robinson, first team all SEC at Missouri. First round pick. 27th overall.
05:57As the Saints just run it here in third down and 18. And a nice spin down stop by Barnes.
06:02I want to go back to Darius Robinson for a second, Wolf. Because when the Cardinals
06:07made the trade with Houston, a lot of people thought it was going to be a really high pick.
06:10The Texans had a great year. So they ended up picking at the end of the first round.
06:14But there are a lot of people that feel whether Darius Robinson went 27 or went 5,
06:20one day people are going to look back and see a perennial pro bowler.
06:23They're that high on the potential of Darius Robinson.
06:26Oh my goodness. I love what I've seen from Darius Robinson so far. David,
06:31you can move him over the center or on the edge and anywhere in between.
06:35And he gets in a four point stance. That's old school.
06:40Line drive punt. I don't know if the side of the foot, but it takes a huge hop. DJ Dallas
06:45able to pick it up. And as we saw him do a lot in Seattle.
06:49Players on offense presented by the Arizona Department of Education. Who you got, Wolf?
06:53Oh, that's a good look at Tim Ryman right there. The true stud tight end, 6'5", 275 pounds. He was
07:01the best blocking tight end in the draft in my opinion. And Trey Benson, of course, impact players
07:08taken in the same row by Monte Austin for right now. That to me, when they drafted Trey Benson,
07:15they were saying we're going to institutionalize physicality on this team.
07:19And that's the culture that Monte Austin Fort has built along with Jonathan Gannon,
07:24the head coach play fake here. Ritter setting up in trouble, gets away from Brzee and Ritter again,
07:29really good athlete able to get out of there and get about five yards before the slide. But once
07:34again, there was pressure and looked like Isaiah Adams, a rookie out of Illinois, got beat.
07:40Well, you can see it right there. Isaiah Adams is a guy that has got to continue to develop,
07:45but that's the worst thing for a quarterback off of play action to turn around and try to read
07:51coverage and know that you're under duress immediately. That is always a tough proposition.
07:58Here's Trey Benson on the pitch and trying to find a cutback lane, gets pushed back and
08:04a flag comes in. Benson selected in the third round out of Florida State. He started his career
08:10at Oregon. James Conner had 1,000 yards last year. He's the number one back, but Benson's the future
08:16at that position. I really like what I've seen from him so far, David. Trey Benson, of course.
08:24Office number 63. Ten-yard penalty. Repeat second half.
08:28Absolutely love that right there. I'd like to see Trey Benson stick it a little bit more, David.
08:36Go ahead and plant that foot, and if you're going to make that move,
08:40tip that thing and rip it, man. Lower the plow and hit the gas.
08:48And he'll learn that. Another thing he's got to learn, pass protection. Amari DiMercato,
08:55not playing in this game, but as Benson gets the carry, and this time keeps the feet moving
09:00and gets across the 30. DiMercato was really good last year in pass protection,
09:04and obviously for a rookie, that's an adjustment at this level especially.
09:08Obviously you just look at him, looks the part, and was very productive in college.
09:13They expect the same, but can he do some of the little things early?
09:17Yeah, boy, I'll tell you what. Can he do it? We're going to find out, but, man, did you see
09:21Tip Reimann one-on-one with Chase Young on the outside right there? Welcome to the NFL, Tip.
09:28Keep the feet moving. Michael Carter in here on third down. Ritter back to throw. Dumps it off,
09:37but they'll be short of the line to gain. Xavier Weaver on the catch. McKinstry on the tackle.
09:43Going to bring a fourth down. You go ahead and watch this right here. Tip Reimann one-on-one
09:48with Chase Young out there. Oh, the physicality with the hand up in the face. Man, and you know
09:55what? This is what you're going to have to learn every guy out on the field. You want to talk about
10:00a talented player and Chase Young? Man, that is a great education for Tip Reimann.
10:10Another punt for Gilligan. Cedric Wilson downfield to receive.
10:15Short punt. Wilson from the 25. Passed the 30 and dives out near the 35-yard line.
10:24Take a look at our impact players on offense presented by the Arizona Department of Education.
10:28Who you got, Wolf? Oh, that's a good look at Tip Reimann right there. The true stud tight end,
10:336'5", 275 pounds. He was the best blocking tight end in the draft, in my opinion, and Trey Benson,
10:41in my opinion, and Trey Benson, of course, impact players taken in the same round by
10:48Mani Asanfort right now. That, to me, when they drafted Trey Benson, they were saying,
10:53we're going to institutionalize physicality on this team. And that's the culture that
10:58Mani Asanfort has built, along with Jonathan Gannon, the head coach. Play fake here. Ritter
11:03setting up in trouble. Gets away from Brzee, and Ritter, again, really good athlete. Able to get
11:09out of there and get about five yards before the slide. But once again, there was pressure.
11:14It looked like Isaiah Adams, a rookie out of Illinois, got beat. Well, you can see it right
11:19there. Isaiah Adams is a guy that has got to continue to develop. But that's the worst thing
11:25for a quarterback, off of play action, to turn around and try to read coverage and know that
11:30you're under duress immediately. That is always a tough proposition. Here's Trey Benson on the pitch.
11:39And trying to find a cutback lane. Gets pushed back, and a flag comes in.
11:44Benson selected in the third round out of Florida State. He started his career at Oregon. James
11:49Conner had 1,000 yards last year. He's the number one back. But Benson's the future at that position.
11:56Boy, I really like what I've seen from him so far, David. Trey Benson, of course.
12:01I'd like to see Trey Benson stick it a little bit more, David. Go ahead and plant that foot.
12:15And if you're going to make that move, tip that thing and rip it, man. Lower the plow and hit the
12:22gas. And he'll learn that. Another thing he's got to learn, pass protection. Amari DiMercato,
12:32who is not playing in this game. But as Benson gets the carry, and this time keeps the feet
12:37moving, and gets across the 30. DiMercato was really good last year in pass protection. And
12:42obviously, for a rookie, that's an adjustment at this level, especially. Obviously, you just look
12:47at him. Looks the part. And was very productive in college. They expect the same. But can he do
12:53some of the little things early? Yeah, boy, I'll tell you what. Can he do it? We're going to find
12:58out. But, man, did you see Tip Ryman one on one with Chase Young on the outside right there?
13:04Welcome to the NFL, Tip. Keep the feet moving. Michael Carter in here on third down.
13:12Ritter back to throw. Dumps it off. But they'll be short of the line to gain. Xavier Weaver on
13:18the catch. McKinstry on the tackle. Going to bring a fourth down. You go ahead and watch this right
13:24here. Tip Ryman one on one with Chase Young out there. Oh, the physicality with the hand up in
13:30the face. Man, you know what? This is what you're going to have to learn every guy out on the field.
13:37You want to talk about a talented player and Chase Young? Man, that is a great education for
13:44Tip Ryman. Another punt for Gilligan. Cedric Wilson downfield to receive.
13:55Short punt. Wilson from the 25. Pass the 30 and dives out near the 35-yard line.
14:03Take a closer look at Tip Ryman in our rookie spotlight. Once again, he is a true stud tight
14:08end, a wide tight end. I think Big Red is going to lead the National Football League in 12
14:13personnel because of this kid. One back, two tight ends. With Trey McBride being the move
14:19tight end, 12 personnel in run down situations, first and 10, and second and 1 to 6.
14:27Wolfe has a tear in his eye right now because there's a fullback on the field.
14:30Toughest guy on the field. Adam Prentiss is the Saints' fullback. They actually have two
14:38on their roster. I've got to run behind him here as they hand it off to Jamal Williams,
14:45and he gets about four yards out to the 39. Let's go back to that tight end room because you talked
14:50about Ryman and McBride. Seeing a lot of personnel groupings where the two of them are on the field
14:56together. You also have Elijah Higgins. Yes, and Elijah Higgins looks really, really good. Has a
15:02lot of heads turned so far in training camp, David. He's done very, very well, but 12 personnel. More
15:09on this in a minute. Another run play that doesn't get much good job up front by Stills again, third
15:16down. Just want to go back to it, David, because the Arizona Cargills can go in 12 personnel.
15:20They can pack you in and they can lower the plow and hit the gas, run right over you, but they can
15:26also spread it from 12 personnel, and I've seen them do it where the tight ends are in the flex
15:32position in the slot, two wide receivers on the outside, and then they go empty by motioning the
15:38running back out. They can go empty with 12 personnel and throw the ball very effectively as
15:44well. On third down, Hainers pass a little behind the target, but it's caught by Holker near the
15:54line to gain. Blunt on the stop. See if they measure. Looks short. Joey Blunt trying to make
16:04the roster on special teams as well as a backup DB. A lot of spots on the back of the line.
16:11Blunt's been a good special teams player for Arizona. Fourth down, the Saints will go for it.
16:17Good work here for these guys up front for the Cardinals.
16:23And it's going to be a first down just straight ahead there for the quarterback, Hainer.
16:31Did you see that pile for him? I know it's the quarterback sneak, but
16:36what a beautiful thing that is to see that. You don't want to be at the bottom of that pile, David.
16:43You're going to need a hazmat suit if you are, for the most part,
16:47because gravity and stuff dripping gets bad down there.
16:58Run it again here. Williams into Cardinal territory. It's one of the better run
17:02plays for New Orleans. The Cardinals have done a really good job up front so far in this game.
17:07Devon Wilson with a tackle downfield. Yeah, nice job right there. And this is where you got to
17:14start to pop. Anybody that is out on the field right now, your opportunity to get some reps out
17:21there. You look at some of the guys that are out there. Lopez, that is out there. Dante Stills,
17:26Papo. These are guys that need these reps right now. Need to get better with these reps and to
17:33make this two. On second and three, maybe a yard. Well, the guys that are going to start,
17:43Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones, along with either Lopez or Collier. Jones and Nichols are both
17:48newcomers. Jones coming from the Bears. He's still a rookie, but he's got a lot of experience.
17:54Jones coming from the Bears. He started every game last year. Nichols started every game at the
17:59Raiders. You'd have to think at least on paper, those are the two guys starting at the deep
18:04tackle spots in that three-man front. Yeah, I would think so right now. And Darius Robinson,
18:10obviously, the wild card. You never know where he's going to line up. I think that's going to
18:15be one of the more fascinating things to watch.
