00:00London and Brighton are among the UK cities where anti-racism protesters have staged peaceful
00:05demonstrations.
00:07On Saturday, many took to the streets here in Liverpool, outnumbering anti-immigration
00:11protesters and denouncing violence that broke out across the UK incited by anti-immigration
00:17and far-right sentiment.
00:18I think it's really important that we come out and show that we are a united city, that
00:27the city will not tolerate violence.
00:30Everything I've been doing in the last five, six years has been about bringing communities
00:35together, but I think we can scale it up and make sure that we're reaching people we haven't
00:40reached before.
00:42While the far-right riots appear to have died down in most areas, almost 6,000 riot police
00:47deployed earlier this week remain in place.
00:50I'm absolutely convinced that having the police officers in place these last few days in the
00:55right places, the swift justice that's being dispensed in our courts have had a real impact.
01:03More than 700 arrests have been made since the riots erupted, and more than 300 people
01:07have been charged, with charges not just being pressed for rioting, but inciting hatred online.
01:14The violence broke out after a stabbing incident in Southport that killed three young girls
01:18on July 29th.
01:21False information suggesting that the suspect was an illegal immigrant and a Muslim quickly
01:25spread online, fuelling the riots even after police confirmed the suspect was born in Britain.
01:32Rioters targeted mosques and hotels used to house asylum seekers in what became the worst
01:37unrest Britain has seen in over a decade.
