00:00Hi friends, today we will learn about the prepositional phrases. So let's start. But
00:09first, let's revise what we learned in the last section. We already know that a phrase
00:16is a group of words that does not make complete sense. For example, my country, to the park,
00:26to have dinner, nice boy, my friend. So such group of words that do not make complete
00:34sense are known as phrases and they do not form a complete sentence. We learned that
00:41a noun phrase is a phrase that contains a noun and the words that modify it, like articles,
00:50adjectives, participles, and possessive pronouns. The red house. Here, the is the determiner.
01:01Red is adjective. House is noun. On the other hand, a verb phrase consists of a main verb
01:10and its helping verb. Should study. Should is model verb. Study is main verb. So we
01:20know what are noun phrases and what are verb phrases. Now let's learn what is a prepositional
01:28phrase. A phrase that starts with a preposition is called a prepositional phrase. It contains
01:37a preposition and may also contain a noun or a pronoun and their modifiers. It is a
01:44group of words that lacks either a verb or a subject and functions as a unified part
01:51of speech. It connects two phrases or ideas in a sentence and are used to modify when,
02:00where, how, and why. It provides more information about a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb. For
02:10example, the phrase in the market starts with a preposition in and also has a determiner,
02:19the, and a noun market. So the phrase in the market is a prepositional phrase. Let's see
02:30one more example. The phrase after many tries starts with a preposition after and also has
02:39a determiner, many, and a noun tries. So the phrase after many tries is a prepositional
02:49phrase. Furthermore, the prepositional phrases perform different functions in different sentences.
02:58First, they modify or add more information to the nouns or pronouns which are placed after or before
03:08the prepositional phrases. For example, the little boy with a blue cap is my son. In this sentence,
03:19the phrase with a blue cap is a prepositional phrase as it starts with a preposition with,
03:27a determiner, a, a noun, cap, and its modifier, blue. Kids, the prepositional phrase with a blue
03:39cap is placed after the noun phrase, the little boy. The phrase with a blue cap is modifying or
03:48adding more information to the phrase, the little boy. It means that the little boy is wearing a
03:56cap that is blue in color. The building at the corner is well-decorated. In this sentence,
04:06the phrase at the corner is a prepositional phrase as it starts with a preposition at,
04:14a determiner, the, and a noun, corner. Here, the prepositional phrase at the corner is placed
04:25after the noun phrase, the building. The phrase at the corner is modifying or adding more
04:33information to the phrase, the building. So, when a prepositional phrase is placed after the noun
04:41or a noun phrase, then it modifies them. Moreover, a prepositional phrase after a verb modifies or
04:52adds more information to that verb. For instance, the police ran after the thief. Here, the phrase
05:02after the thief is a prepositional phrase as it starts with a preposition, after, a determiner,
05:11the, and a noun, thief. The phrase is placed after the verb ran, so it is modifying the action of
05:21running. For example, Maria went to the college. Here, the phrase to the college is a prepositional
05:32phrase as it starts with a preposition, to, a determiner, the, and a noun, college. The
05:41phrase is placed after the verb went, modifying the action of going. So, kids, prepositional
05:50phrases after the verbs modify them. Another part of a prepositional phrase is called the
05:58object of a preposition, and that object can be a word or a phrase, which gives preposition its
06:06meaning. Example, Kathy purchased shoes with rubber soles. Here, the phrase with rubber soles
06:16is a prepositional phrase as it starts with a preposition, with, an adjective, rubber, and a
06:25noun, soles. The phrase is placed after the verb purchased, modifying the action of purchasing.
06:34In some sentences, multiple prepositions can be used in a single prepositional phrase. A
06:43combination of two or more prepositions expresses a different meaning than its individual parts.
06:50Example, the chair is made out of plastic. Here, in this sentence, the prepositional phrase is
07:01out of plastic. The preposition in this phrase is out and of, and the noun is plastic. So,
07:11in this sentence, two prepositions are used to make a sentence. So,
07:16out of plastic is a prepositional phrase. Kids, here is an example which includes
07:25more than one preposition separated by a conjunction. Lucas went up and down the
07:33stairs. In this sentence, each preposition has been applied separately to the object,
07:41and this sentence can be written as, Lucas went up the stairs. Lucas went down the stairs.
07:50Here, the phrase, up and down the stairs, is a prepositional phrase as it starts with a
07:58preposition, up, a conjunction, and a preposition, down, a determiner, the, and a noun, stairs.
08:09Let's do more examples for practice. Mac was scared by the cat. Here,
08:19the prepositional phrase is, by the cat. Angela cut the vegetables with the knife.
08:27Here, the prepositional phrase is, with the knife. The dog with red collar is mine. Here,
08:37the prepositional phrase is, with red collar. The game will start after the lunch break. Here,
08:46the prepositional phrase is, after the lunch break. The key is under the bag. Here,
08:55the prepositional phrase is, under the bag. You will get the file at the office. Here,
09:04the prepositional phrase is, at the office. The share market went above and beyond expectations.
09:13Here, the prepositional phrase is, above and beyond expectations. The jewelry is in the
09:22cupboard. Here, the prepositional phrase is, in the cupboard. The deer lost into the woods. Here,
09:33the prepositional phrase is, into the woods. The train went through the tunnel. Here,
09:42the prepositional phrase is, through the tunnel. Most of the concepts are covered within the book.

09:59prepositional phrases, which start with the specific prepositions in each and every sentence.
10:06Kids, remember that a prepositional phrase starts with a preposition and it modifies the nouns,
10:16pronouns, and verbs, and which are placed before or after preposition. So kids,
