Kementerian Perhubungan berencana menjadikan kendaraan nirawak atau otonom yang berbasis teknologi, sebagai pilar utama dalam sistem transportasi massal di Indonesia. Oleh sebab itu, Menteri Perhubungan Budi Karya Sumadi meminta kepada para pemangku kepentingan di bidang transportasi, mempersiapkan diri untuk penggunaan kendaraan otonom sebagai kendaraan transportasi massal di Tanah Air.

Budi Sumadi menambahkan, transformasi transportasi di era digital akan semakin dipengaruhi oleh teknologi otonom. Dan kita telah melihat sejumlah inovasi yang mengadopsi teknologi otonom pada berbagai tingkat di Indonesia. Salah satunya di Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), dimana akan ada trem otonom atau Autonomous Rail Transit (ART). Selain itu, penggunaan teknologi ini juga sudah diterapkan pada LRT Jabodebek dan Skytrain Soekarno-Hatta. Dengan demikian, kendaraan otonom akan menjadi pilar utama dalam sistem transportasi di masa depan.
