Das Drehbuch zu Der König der Löwen 2 aka Mufasa: The Lion King schreibt Jeff Nathanson, der bereits beim Vorgänger beteiligt war. Es soll zugleich ein Prequel und Sequel sein, also Simbas Herrschaft ebenso ausloten wie die seines Vaters Mufasa.
