Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died after falling from a fourth floor balcony of a block of flats.

Police were called to Black Friar Court in Salford, Greater Manchester, after reports that a 57-year-old male had fallen from the apartment block.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services last night (Sunday), the victim was pronounced dead at hospital.

A 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody for questioning.

Callum Balderstone, who witnessed the incident, said he saw a man holding onto the edge of the balcony before falling.

He says he then looked down and phoned an ambulance but said he could see instantly how serious his injuries were.

Callum said: "His arms were stretched out and his finger tips were holding onto the edge.

"I said to my son that I couldn't look any longer as he was going to go and then five seconds later, I heard a bang.

"I looked down and he was there, it was horrible.

"He held on for some time considering he was a big, heavy chap - it happened so instantly and so quick it was unbelievable.

"It was scary, when I looked down and saw his body on the floor, I had to go for a walk to clear my head and I've been feeling sick all day."

Detective Inspector David Ogden said: "We know the community will be concerned about this tragic death, and we share their concern.

"We're appealing to anyone who has not yet spoken to us.

"Please don't assume that what you know is already known to us.

"The smallest piece of information may be crucial to our investigation and towards getting answers for this man's family."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting log 3044 of 11/8/24.
