00:00Do you want to build a snowman? Again?
00:03Disney's Frozen is one of their all-time biggest hits, so it was a no-brainer that the company
00:07would continue to capitalize on the franchise. Keep watching to find out about the new details
00:11revealed about the threequel, and how fans are reacting.
00:14After Frozen broke records and had everyone and their dog humming Let It Go, Disney released
00:18a follow-up to their beloved story of sisterly affection in 2019, Frozen 2. This time, Elsa
00:23and Anna leave Arendelle, where they will learn more about themselves and each other.
00:27But they were hardly going to just stop there, right? After two hit films, a spin-off musical,
00:31and an entire land dedicated to it at both Disneyland Hong Kong and Tokyo DisneySea,
00:36the third Frozen film was only a matter of time.
00:38At this year's D23 Exposition, fans got a sneak peek at Frozen 3, the third film in
00:43the series, and one of many recently announced sequel films alongside Toy Story 5, Incredibles
00:483, and Zootopia 2. And although details are fairly sparse on the ground about what the
00:52actual storyline will be, eagle-eyed fans have spotted a few key elements that suggest
00:57Frozen 3 will take inspiration from Norse mythology.
01:00Frozen 3 was previously slated to come out in 2026, but at D23 it was announced the hotly
01:05anticipated film would be pushed back to 2027. Most of the main cast is likely to return
01:10to reprise their extremely popular characters, including Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel as
01:14Anna and Elsa, respectively, along with Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as Olaf.
01:19Although the storyline will likely pick up where Frozen 2 left off, we haven't yet gotten
01:23any hints as to new characters that might turn up in the third film. Still, producer
01:27Jennifer Lee offered a tantalizing glimpse of things to come, saying,
01:30"...coming out of Frozen 2, we still have some questions. A lot of questions, actually.
01:34Now you see why we need two films to tell this story."
01:37With this, she set the stage for Frozen 3, while also seemingly confirming the rumors
01:41that a fourth Frozen movie has already been greenlit. Beyond this, fans at D23 were treated
01:46to a single piece of concept art in the Sleeping Beauty aesthetic, showcasing Anna on a brown
01:50horse and Elsa on a white one, both riding towards a shining castle in the sky.
01:54As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and fans have been quick to read into
01:58this concept art to try to determine what Frozen 3 will actually be about. Many have
02:02zeroed in on both the city in the sky and the dark, intimidating figure in the bottom
02:06right corner as evidence that the film will lean into Norse mythology for inspiration.
02:10One user on X, referring to what may be hinted as the villain of the piece, exclaimed,
02:14Oh my God, it's Loki!
02:16This was a common take, with another commenter writing further,
02:19"...since Frozen is based off of Norwegian culture and folklore, my bet is that this
02:22movie is going to be about Norse mythology, because of the shadows on the bottom right
02:26looking kind of Viking-ish, Loki-ish."
02:28At the same time, others focused more intently on the city in the sky, making the argument
02:32that it represents Valhalla, the famed afterlife of Viking warriors. Another user wrote excitedly,
02:37breaking down elements of the concept art,
02:39"...Frozen 3 is going to be amazing, and I can prove it. In the background of the released
02:42concept art, we have Valhalla with two Viking silhouettes, and another large one in the
02:46river. I'm sure they'll delve deeper into the Norse mythology of this universe, and
02:50it'll be amazing."
02:51We'll have to wait a few more years before we can see the finished product, but these
02:54fans seem to be on the right track. Will Elsa and Anna cross paths with the Norse trickster
02:59god? Only time will tell.
