Pete Codling's drawing unveiled on HMS Warrior
Transcript
00:00I think he's up there, I'm not sure, good morning, not too bad, how are you, you alright?
00:28Peter approached us to ask if he could have some space here in the Historic Quarter and
00:32if we had a large space that he could, is squat a harsh word? Inhabit, and make beautiful
00:41whilst he worked on this amazing piece of artwork. We absolutely loved the concept of
00:48telling the story of the faces and the people of Portsmouth throughout history. This dockyard
00:53has been at the heart of Portsmouth's history for those 800 years and this was the only
00:59place that it could be and should be created. It's been wonderful to see so many people
01:04passing through the gates, which is part of what it's all about, inviting people in, engaging
01:09with their heritage and sitting for Pete and then producing the incredible work that you're
01:14going to see dropped from Warrior's, which mast is it Matthew? Four masts. Four masts!
01:22Thank you all for coming, first of all to all family, friends, funders, supporters,
01:26workers, contractors that have made this happen and it is a unique occasion, thank you to
01:31Matt and Hannah for this amazing opportunity for the first time in 160 odd years for a
01:37sail to actually be on HMS Warrior, but it's not just a sail on a ship, this is a sail
01:43for the imagination, this is a thousand faces telling 2000 years worth of history for future
01:49generations to find out how we became this city, what the city of Portsmouth is made
01:55of and learn about the people behind the island of Portsea that's become this fabulous city
02:01and as we get into the centenary celebrations in 2026, this is a chance to understand what
02:08makes a city, the variety of people, we've literally got everyone in there from the cleaner
02:12to the astronaut, all of the dignitaries, all of the royalty, the good, the bad and
02:18the ugly from Portsmouth history are all in this great big sail.
02:21Ok everyone can you help out?
