00:00Drama here at the Broadcombe Stadium, you were right in the thick of it. Talk us through the season's action.
00:04Yeah, it was a proper cup tie, I think.
00:09I think we lost control a bit in the second half and that's something we need to be better at because
00:13we're a Ligue 1 team now and we want to, all of us, everyone we play, but especially when we play
00:18a team from the lower division, even though they're a very good team.
00:22But overall, we're very happy to get through, two wins from two now in the season and
00:27we can't be too greedy and we just want to win every game we play.
00:31Yeah, lots to be positive about and not that I'm calling you old in the slightest, but you were actually
00:34one of the more senior players out there until we just entered the gaffer and the average age of that team
00:38must have been incredibly low.
00:39So it must have been sort of pleasing for you to play a massive part in that game with what was a very young squad.
00:45Yeah, I didn't even know that, but being one of the senior boys out there, I want to try and lead from example.
00:52Yeah, I mean, the gaffer gives us the platform to play.
00:57It doesn't really matter what age we are, we're all good players, we've all been signed, we're all here for a reason.
01:01So, as I said, it doesn't matter what age we are, we're going to get time on the pitch if the gaffer trusts us,
01:07believes in us and then we've got to show why he's put that faith into us.
01:11Yeah, obviously, minutes for yourself in the league on Saturday and obviously a start tonight.
01:15These sort of games we often speak about as a chance for players to show Scott why they should potentially be starting
01:19or, you know, sort of be pushing those places.
01:21I think you did that tonight with two very well taken goals.
01:24They were both pretty exceptional, weren't they?
01:26Yeah, it's a bit similar to last season.
01:30These games are a platform to try and show why I want to start in the league games.
01:35Also, I want to start in these games because every game you want to show what you can do.
01:40Yeah, I mean, you've just got to do what you can when you get given the time.
01:46And yeah, like you said, just try and make an impression, not just with goals,
01:49but other stuff on the pitch like goals, assists, defensive work, transitions.
01:53And hopefully that will be good enough to get in 11 in the league.
01:57Yeah, when you sort of lined up to strike that first hit,
02:00especially, I don't think there was anything else on your mind really.
02:02I was there other than absolutely powering it into the top corner.
02:05And to be fair, it came off brilliantly.
02:07Honestly, I said to Adi after that, I saw him make the run.
02:12And he actually, I think he moved the defender out of the way for me a bit.
02:15So, yeah, I was thinking about playing with him.
02:17And then when it opened up, there was nothing else in my mind.
02:20And yeah, funnily enough, one of the fans said to me before the game,
02:23I can sense a Jack Walsh scream coming.
02:25And then, yeah, I pointed to him after it went in.
02:28So, yeah, it's good to have that connection with the fans and get through to the next round.
02:32Yeah, the second one wasn't bad either.
02:34Obviously, perfect timing, sort of perfect placement as well.
02:37Were you ever tempted to absolutely smash it like you did in that first one?
02:39Or was it just keep a cool head and find that bottom corner?
02:44No, it was always, I think it was a bit close to this one.
02:46So, I didn't really need to go with much power.
02:49Just open up the body.
02:51And I think, I don't know who the defender was, but shaped it around him.
02:54And I think the goalie was a bit block sighted by it.
02:57And yeah, it helped it go in the corner.
02:59And yeah, it's just a great feeling to go back in the lead
03:04and, as I said, get through to the next round.
03:06Yeah, a real rollercoaster of emotions, as you said at the start of the interview, a proper cup tie.
03:10It shows what great character the lads sort of had tonight,
03:12because obviously going 2-0 up and then very quickly finding ourselves at 2-0.
03:16After saving a penalty as well,
03:17so just when you think that you're sort of back on top with the momentum,
03:19it then swings back the other way.
03:20So, to come back and score another two goals after that, it's quite impressive, isn't it?
03:24Yeah, I'm not sure how many fans were here tonight,
03:26but I think, bar the playoff games last season,
03:28that was probably the best atmosphere I've had at the Broadfield.
03:31I can't remember them being quiet in the second half.
03:34And that's what we want and we'll need from them this season.
03:37Some games we're going to be tired, we're going to be leggy,
03:41we're going to be on the back foot.
03:42And I don't think we started the second half very well after we got the second goal.
03:47And moments like that, they got behind us.
03:49When we went back to 2-2, they could have just been a bit flat of us,
03:53but no, they got us going and then we provided them with two more goals.
03:56And, yeah, honestly, it was an unbelievable atmosphere.
03:59As I said, I don't know how many were here tonight, but they were very, very loud and good.
04:02Thank you, Jack.
04:04Cool, Sam.
04:04Hi, Jack.
04:05First of all, you think it's the best goal you've scored in your career, do you think?
04:09I haven't watched it back.
04:13I'm not sure.
04:14I remember one of my first goals for Cambridge, I think it was my second goal.
04:18Maybe we'll be on par with that.
04:19I've won gold in a month for it.
04:20So, yeah, I'm not sure.
04:23I'll have to watch it back and I can let you know another time.
04:25Excellent.
04:25I mean, obviously, this season's been a great start with two wins from two.
04:29Like last season, there's been a lot of fans writing cruelly off once again.
04:32Are you determined to do what you did last year and just prove those people wrong again?
04:35Yeah, they can keep doing it.
04:37As the manager always says, it fires us up.
04:41It gets us going.
04:43Say what they want about us.
04:44We're not here to make up the numbers in any competition.
04:47Just because it's the Carabao Cup doesn't mean we're just going to not turn up.
04:51We want to win every game we play and see how far we can get and test ourselves against the best teams.
04:55How impressive is Scott as a manager?
04:56You think last season he built the team he did and achieved what he did.
04:59And now, pretty much a whole new team.
05:01We've seen some similar players from last season.
05:03How much of a positive impact is he having on this club?
05:07Yeah, he's unbelievable.
05:10He brings in unbelievable players, I think, alongside with the owners.
05:13How they recruit is something I've never seen before.
05:17People raise eyebrows and then they see him play on the pitch and they're like,
05:22wow, he's an unbelievable player.
05:25With the whole recruitment and the way we play, Gaff is unbelievable.
05:29The owners are very good at signings.
05:31If we can just keep being as a team and being with each other, we'll have no problems this year.
